It's the same as Wii Sports, the focus of the game is how you hit the ball rather than moving your character around - So, sorry guys, no soup for you :D

I think the sort of tennis game you'll want won't involve motion controls, but something more simplistic when it comes to actually hitting the ball. That way the game can be about positioning. Worrying about both things would just make for a frustrating game experience.

I mean, as is, from my opponents, without the previous Wii tennis experience, my opponents failed to hit the ball, and I ended up with very short 7-0 games. Imagine throwing manual movement at them too? It would be a lot of 1-2 hit games, and anything over that would be a rarity.

Table tennis might possibly including manual movement. There's actually space for it with each player being single characters at opposing ends of the table as opposed to being two characters on the field. I'm not sure, though. So, we'll see how that one turns out, it might be more what you're looking for.

Nope that's not what I'm looking for at all, what I'm looking for is Wii Sports Tennis but where you can actually move the character.

Wii Sports Tennis felt like it was made for babies by taking away controlling the character. Controlling movement and swinging would not be hard for a player and would feel very natural. That is what I want. It's very sad to see that Nintendo is once again making the biggest mistake they made with Wii Sports, and all it would take is few minutes of coding to fix it. Wii Sports was probably considered a tech demo and motion controls were completetly novel when the Wii came out, so keeping everything simple maybe at least made sense in that regard. But Switch Sports is a game that will be selling on it's own merit and there is no reason to handicap the Tennis game so drastically when the easiest fix imaginable would make it a fantastic part of the overall game. This would be like in golf if the computer chose your club and your direction and the only thing you got to do was swing - which would make it very lame, which is what Wii/Switch Tennis is.

Tennis games are fun, motion controls tennis makes tennis much more fun, but without controlling the character you're not playing Tennis you're just swinging. So Wii Tennis, and apparently Switch Tennis, takes what could be amazing and turns it into another dud.

I plan on getting Switch Sports but sadly once again Tennis will be gathering dust as they ruined it by leaving out basic controls.

I agree and disagree at the same time. Let me try to describe what in my opinion would make the game a lot better while keeping accessibility: I still think that automatic movement should be kept but the player should be able to position his character to either hit a forehand or a backhand based on how he or she is holding the joycon. This simple change would make a world of difference in how many strikes you would be able to pull off.  It would feel so good to hit an inside out forehand across court.

It’s unfortunate that Nintendo is releasing a game that doesn’t suit your tastes. Such is life! Fast paced reactions and hitting the ball in a variety of ways using motion controls is the point of the game, not moving to different points on the field. Like it or not, Nintendo’s designers didn’t include moving around on the field because they felt it an unnecessary complication for the experience.

I won’t suggest your superior intellect isn’t too high for Wii Sports. I will say if it’s that high, you should understand the Game is clearly not made for babies and was the furthest thing from a mistake. The tennis was one of the two most popular games (along with bowling). Wii Sports was a cultural phenomenon and arguably the strongest killer app in console gaming history.

Tennis was always my favorite next to boxing. Despite the simplicity it still remains challenging and I love that.

Haha, you captured my second sentence which came off way more patronizing than my intent. Not intending to be a dick to Slownenberg, it’s just my shitty English :D

But yeah, Tennis was very often the game people wanted to play. It’s probably the one I’ll be playing the most because it hits that 3-5 minute mark I’m looking for - I work in pomodoros (Alternatijg between 25 minutes working and 5 minute breaks for maximum efficiency), and I like to do something active for my breaks as it tends to give me the best mental charge.

My favourite was the boxing as well. Unfortunately, it was generally the least popular of the games. Still, I hope Nintendo includes it eventually.

According to datamining, the game uses Nintendo's in-house Lunchpack engine, which also powers games like Splatoon 2, Mario Maker 2, ARMS, and Animal Crossing New Horizons.
This suggests it's EPD developed rather than done by a satellite studio or outsourced party.

Furthermore datamining reveals references to Dodgeball and Basketball, possibly they will be added post-launch like golf:

Woah just saw on the eshop Switch Sports only costs $40. That's great! I figured it'd be $60 for sure. Although I'd rather pay $60 if they added in boxing and some more sports and made sure Tennis isn't gimped by not allowing player controls. At $40 though that should make it an easy decision for people to pick up. This game should do very well.

Those could also be games that just were not working well so they cut them.  References to cut content get left in all the time.  Probably a 50-50 chance either way, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much.
