Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony acquires Bungie for $3.6 billion - staying multiplatform

Strange and expensive acquisition.

It's hard to tell since Bungie is privately owned and we have no clear idea how much money they are making. I'd assume their net income must be fairly decent.

I'm more interested on where are the "professional forum business analyst" that kept assuring everyone that Sony can't afford to do billion dollar acquisition.

I've seen this countless times here as I have been lurking for a while now, I'm interested to hear from these "professionals" now, talking like they know the whole Sony corp financial cap

I prefer SEGA as a 3rd party but SEGA would make more sense under Nintendo's roof than MS. Sonic qould have better quality control. Nintendo is morelikley to have some classic SEGA IPs revised as they fit a Nintendo audience better. Atlus would do wonders not just making Persona but assisting other studios and then imagine a Atlus/Monolith collaberation. The one downside is Yakuza would be on lesser hardware. Again I hope sSEGA can stay 3rd party but if they have to go somewhere. Nintendo makes more sense.

In america the 4th gen war is more than if Microsoft bought Sony , if Sony ever becomes 3rd party , that's why that generation 4th was the best console war generation ever and the Genesis does commercials made us really give Nintendo the business , it was especially personal when kids compared Sonic is better than Mario and having Nintendo make Sonic better is bad taste to 4th generation fans of SEGA . (It's like Microsoft buys Sony in 2040 and Microsoft fixes Uncharted what was perfect already in 1992 ala Sonic 2 and 1994 Soinc 3 and Knuckles)

I'm well aware of thr 16 bit war. I was there.

That felt like wishful thinking more than anything.

I hate saying things like this but Nintendo, go get Platinum games and maybe Koei Tecmo.

I hope they don't. I don't see Nintendo putting their games on any other platform.

A bit odd that Bungie will be "an independent subsidiary" and they will remain a multiplatform studio. Especially with a deal worth $3.6 billion.

I'm pretty sure Xbox made an offer, probably with a lot more money. Perhaps "independence" was the Cherry that made Bungie choose Playstation.

If Sony is going shopping in Japan, which I think is inevitable at this point, it will force Nintendo's hand.

Halo: Combat Evolved was going to have a PS2 port, before it got cancelled. Things are coming full circle. But I know Bungie has not been involved with Halo for a very long time, and who knows if Halo will ever crossover from Xbox and Windows.

Buying a studio with a single downhill franchise on their back for an absurd amount of money is... not very smart.
