Forums - Movies & TV - Dune (2021)

Just got back from seeing this, my first time in the cinema since Godzilla vs Kong back in March.

As a piece of filmmaking, its quite staggering; the direction, score, cinematography, effects, acting, all phenomenal. "Epic" is a very overused adjective, but this film truly earns the word. It's one of those experiences that really benefits from being seen on a big screen with powerful sound.

In terms of sheer scope I don't think I've experienced a film on this level since The Return of the King nearly two decades ago.

My only issue is that as the first part of a series, it didn't really have much of a conclusion or climax, which did deflate its impact just a little as it sort of tapers off. Still, this one shortcoming is not enough to undo all it gets right.

Anyone else see it?

I've seen it on opening weekend and I thought it was awesome! Can't wait to see part 2!

Watched it at the movie theater and it was worth the experience. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time, and up there with some of the best sci-fi movies.

Its amazing. I just find funny that Zendaya was so advertised for this movie and then her participation was basically a photoshoot ?

Epic is the best word one can use and still it doesn't feel like it's enough.

Has only just released in Australia, saw it about a week ago. Planning on seeing it again with friends rather than my partner.

I saw it the second week it came out because was not able to week it came out. I was pretty confidence going in since I had a friend offer to go see it with me who had already saw it and it did not disappoint. Probably the most I enjoyed a film visually since the last movie Denis Villeneuve director Blade Runner 2049 another movie I absolutely loved.

I really enjoyed the game Dune 2000, never seen the films.

Honestly, I've found it to be much closer to Herbert's work in lot of aspects than Lynch's version, but unlike latter which oozed with character (albeit with crapload of problems), this one left me with lot of meh in the end (well, almost like everything I watched from Villeneuve, apart from Arrival to some extent).

As somewhat of a sci-fi geek, I find Sci-Fi channel's 3-part mini-series from 2000 to be closest to the book, although it severely lacks in production compared to either films (which was later somewhat fixed with Children of the Dune).

If anything, Dune should've been done like TV series, akin to Foundation - at least production wise, given how massively Apple fucked up Foundation when it comes to plot and overall feel.

Well to be honest, the movie only covered like the first 1/4 of the book and in my opinion the most boring parts.  Here on things ramp up quick and you would be seeing her character a lot from now on.  If I am going to go by what they showed in the movie, its probably going to take at least 3 parts to finish.

The grand scenic visuals and atmosphere are absolutely astounding. The pacing felt very good too. The only thing I found lacking a bit was the acting. It's acceptable but it's not one of the films strong points. I also didn't like how it ended. Felt like it should have been 20 mins shorter or 20 mins longer.

Either way it's one of the few movies that left me wanting more. Looking forward to the follow up.
