Oh, that's for a lottery at a single chain of stores. Gotta love massive scale data extrapolation from such top quality new websites like "Today in 24.com" where the "trending now" section is literally an ad for a mobile game. I can't even.

David Gibson who they're citing is a reliable source and Yodobashi Camera is one of the biggest gaming outlets in Japan.

Xbox Series needs less than 10k to outsell Xbox One LT in Japan.

Correct, just next time link the tweet from Gibson and indicate that you're referring to lotteries at Yodobashi. The way you worded it originally had me thinking you were going to source someone who had some inside data for Japan as a broader market, so I was disappointed to see that was not the case.

I routinely go through lottery numbers, and trust me, attempting to extrapolate one lottery for the whole nation is a fool's errand. Some weeks one store will be very high while other weeks another store will be very high, etc.

A lot of PS4 games. Devs rather support the dead PS4 than a brand new console.

Good to see this though

Famitsu had it close to but less than 115k when they stopped tracking it, so is less than that according to Famitsu.

It took Xbox One 220 weeks to reach the 100K, Thats 4 and a half years.

It took Xbox Series X|S 46 weeks to reach 100k.

If Series X|S does the same number it did this week the next 2 that's enought to beat the last number famitsu reported for Xbox One.

Edit: before anybody mentions it, I know there are other sources other than Famitsu but as long as we are using Famitsu data those are the numbers. And the others are not too far off anyway.

Beyond Splatoon mania, a Breath of the Wild sequel.. is certainly going to propel the franchise to new heights in Japan, not as much as Splatoon but still it should have no problems to eventually join the 4 million club, something no one would have predicted for Zelda in Japan.

This is a bold prediction, considering that Breath of the Wild (the best-selling Zelda to date in Japan) has sold almost 1.9 million physical units, and even adding digital sales I have doubts that they lead to a total physical + digital over 3 million.

Botw had sold 2.1 million in Japan digital+physical as of March 31st this year. I doubt that the game have sold another 900k in the last seven months.

BotW dropped out of the top 30 for the first time ever. No other game was longer in the top 30 than BotW.
Now MK8DX should surpass BotW's record in I think 8 or 9 weeks.

241 weeks BotW was in the top. For reference ACNL 3dS leggiest game made top 30 for almost 80 weeks

Lots of Playstation titles on the top 30 now. It's been a while since I've seen Playstation do this well. Even Far Cry 6 for PS5 made it on the charts for a second week. Japanese games seem to take about 4 years to develop, so I think we'll be seeing plenty of new Playstation titles entering the charts until 2023-2024. It seems irrational, but these games have been in development long enough that they keep releasing them on Playstation anyway, because they are kind of past the point of no return. The games releasing now probably started development in 2017, which is when the Switch was still a brand new system and Playstation was still doing quite well in Japan.

I figured XBox Series X|S would do better than XB1 worldwide, but I never thought it would do this well in Japan. I'm still not clear if this is due more to scalpers or due to Gamepass. I think PS5 sales will probably nosedive sometime early next year. Once we get past the holidays, scalpers will focus more on Switch OLED rather than PS5. It will be interersting to see if X|S sales nosedive too. I'm still not sure what is driving XBox sales.
