?? There is too much incentive to explore? Don't you mean: There is not enough incentive to explore? I mean sure, there are lots of secrets hidden around, but I never felt it was worth it to spent that extra time, rather than just follow the direction the game points, which leads you faster to the action and the goal. The only level that actually feels designed for exploration, is the third level, 'The Foundry'.
If you don't like the weapon upgrades in DOOM 2016, you will despise it in Eternal, which has much much more of that kind of stuff. It also has its fair share of tutorials.
I am in general on the positive side when it comes to DOOM 2016, I like the glory kills, the gunplay and the overall ride. But I agree with some of the criticism. And unfortunately the flaws are much worse in Eternal, where it at points feel like they didn't get classic DOOM's design philosophy.
I think one of the greatest moments in video game history is when you start the first DOOM, the badass music kicks in, the game doesn't tell you how to play, where to go or what to do. That's up to the player to figure, and it works well because the mechanics are kept simple and intuitive. DOOM Eternal and most modern games in general are the complete opposite.
