Forums - Gaming - How important is 60fps to you?

What do you think?

Anything less is unacceptable 20 16.26%

It's very important 40 32.52%

It's nice, but 30fps is still fine 44 35.77%

It's not important 19 15.45%

Total:123

Not important at all.

Stable frame rates are more important and that is still not really a deal breaker as long as we keep away from slide show territory.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's nice, but people saying anything else is unplayable just need to git gud.

Very important once you get used to it, I prefer high fps over impressive effects any day.

Stable 30 is fine, better than an unstable 60. However if the game keeps 60 most of the time, that will be my preferred setting.

Most people who say otherwise have never experienced it. So many users then suddenly change their mind once they do. Same for 60-100+, massive difference.

I used to be in the "30 fps is fine" camp, but after upgrading my PC where I have not a single game that couldn't reach 60 fps, going back to 30 (like on my PS4) is an eye-sore. Once you get used to 60 fps, it's very difficult to go back. It's like driving a car on a bumpy road. Sure, it's not too bad you can get used to it, but once you reach that brand new, silky smooth tarmac, you're relieved and you really want to stay here. It's not a gimmick, it really makes the difference. And that's for the casual play. For anything, even remotely, competitive 30 fps is unacceptable.

Perfect example to my last comment, happens every time. Congrats on seeing the light.

I think it's safe to say just about every gamer has experienced 60fps.

Many popular franchises have always been 60fps and some have even gone 60fps to 30fps at the turn of the generation like Ratchet and Clank for example. People would go from playing 60fps COD, Mario kart, Smash etc to play a single player 30fps game like Zelda, GTA, Uncharted and I genuinely think most simply do not care lol. There is a difference in feel and weighting, but they don't look at 30fps games as bad or anything.

Whenever there is a toggle option and the player has conscious control over fps, I think that always makes 30fps harder to revert back to, which is why the PC crowd, in particular, are harsher on 30fps.

The importance of framerate to me varies from game to game.
Slower paced games that are open-world like Skyrim are fine at 30fps.

Where-as other action-orientated games like Halo are good at 60fps.

But anything that requires twitch-precision movement like Doom/Ori etc'. 120fps.

I personally run 144hz on my PC, with a 120hz preference on my consoles.
Now I just wished more Xbox Series X, Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch games could take advantage of my 120hz panel, because the pickings are poor.

How people answer this question really depends on the framerate of the average games that they play. If you spend most of your time playing at 30fps, you probably think that's perfectly fine, cus you're just used to it. Conversely, if most games you're playing run at 60 (or higher), then the thought of playing something at 30 is probably rather off-putting.

For the people who don't think framerate is important, I'd challenge you to go play a 60fps game for a couple of hours, and then switch to a game running at 30 (or switch the settings on that same game, if it's an option) immediately after. It feels pretty fucking bad.

stable 30fps is mostly perfectly playable to me, that said I do prefer the motion clarity and less input delay that 60 or higher fps brings in action heavy games
