Forums - Sony Discussion - Over 25 Projects in Development at Playstation Studios, Half of Them Are New IP's

Quite a bit of interesting information from this article. It looks like Sony is once again leading the way for new IP's. It confirms that HFW is still slated for the second half of the year and will be utilizing haptic feedback, it reveals that Ember Labs is already working on their next project, highlights that PS5 game sales are 11% higher than PS4 sales in a comparable time period, and much more! Here's the quote about the SIE pipeline:

"According to Hermen Hulst, a Guerrilla cofounder whom Jim Ryan tapped to lead PlayStation Studios in 2019, the group has more than 25 titles in development for the PS5—nearly half of which are entirely new IP. “There’s an incredible amount of variety originating from different regions,” Hulst says. “Big, small, different genres.”

What's interesting about this number is the article clarifies Housemarque as a third party studio, rather than grouping them as a first party studio, which Sony tends to do with games they're publishing.

"Housemarque isn’t even a first-party developer; what’s coming from the collection of companies under the PlayStation Studios umbrella bears out the breadth and depth of the pipeline."

Even if you consider that a few SIE studios have multiple teams, 25 internal projects seems like a lot, and if they aren't including partnerships, it does seem like Sony is keeping a few acquisition(s) under wraps.

That’s good to hear. Wonder how many of those are for PSVR2.

SIE studios with multiple teams: Insomniac, Guerilla Games, Santa Monica, maybe San Diego, Naughty Dog & perhaps Team Asobi has downsized to one AAA team/one PSVR team, which is in stark contrast to the days of old where Japan Studios had multiple teams (3 - 4) working on all kinds of projects. Every other studio has one team working on a single project.

Can't be true, Jason swear Sony is only doing risk free AAA sequels.

I think that this is a misunderstanding. I believe that Sony counts this game as a Playstation Studios game. It has the Playstation Studios label in the trailer, as did Destruction All-Stars. Games like Kena: Bridge of Spirits do not, so I don't believe that game will count towards the total. In other words, it is not 25 games all by first party studios.

The real question here is: How many of those games are Suikoden-related?

To be honest, the content of this news is just as interesting as this

"Games are being made"

I mean, there is a lot of info in the article itself lol, including developer feedback on the PS3/4 compared to the PS5.

Nice. Hoping to get some games that show off the PS5 at it's fullest potential, sooner rather than later.

That's alot of games. My question would be: in what timeframe are they all releasing? Next two years or three?

Thats nice to hear, in particular I'm craving new IPs
