Also the digital only software includes shovelware and other small games that go on sale for 90% or more. Those certainly sell alot, especially since there are alot of them.

The monthly PSN download chart tells a different story.

Not talking about individual games, I said there were alot of them. Combined they sell alot.

PS4 also had some pretty bad software weeks. Surprisingly the most consistent title for the Playstation 4's launch window was BattleField 4.

Ps5 lauch on November and Ps4 launch in late February

U can't compare one console with 1 month and some week against another console with 4 months and some weeks

And the sony software output, back then in 2014 is far stronger and prevalent(15) than software sales now(5).

PS5 got a title at #11 this week. That is just barely shy of the top 10. We are starting to get to the time where PS5 titles can regularly place in the top 30. However, we are not yet to the point where hardware sales are based on software releases. All of those hardware sales are not due to a game that places #11 at launch.

Playstation had a 80% digital split for their last quarter, 65% digital split for FY20, PS5 software in Japan is not as gloomy as weekly charts may indicate.

is gloomy because sony counts dlc, digital only games, and other things with sales. the number is not on par this way you think.

The digital 80% counts everything, and the physical, Japan is the second market in size and have strong physical sales history.

For both of you, no need to argue anymore, translating the article from resetera:

https://jp.gamesindustry.biz/article/2104/21042701/

Hideki Yasuda makes a point that whilst digital adoption has grown there are still consumers who prefer physical media and undershipment of physical copies can still mean lost sales.

Also a bit about the decline of TV ownership in Japan, with almost a quarter of 30-39 yo not owning a TV as of this past year. Mentions that the current demand for PS5 hardware is likely fueled by the lifestyle change during pandemic necessitating more time spent at home, and not from demand for Ps5 software.

Another great week for Switch, hopefully they can continue improving the stock of the hybrid model

Good debut for Nier

I literally grabbed a July 2014 week at random and this was the result.

Famitsu Sales: Week 30, 2014 (Jul 21 - Jul 27)

Top 30

3DS - 13
PSV - 8
PS3 - 7
PS4 - 1
WIU - 1

PS4 games would have also of had a much higher physical vs digital ratio in 2014, so in a much better position to chart. Anyway the point isn't to imply that they're on equal footing but simply that weak software showing was very common for PS4 in its first year

Again, the sony software is more prevalent in 2014

It's showing the decrease of software dominate of sony in the Japanese game space.

No ones denying that, especially without the presence of a handheld like PSP/Vita. I was just making a separate point altogether

A trend seems to have been established of the Switch versions of multiplats selling roughly double the PS version at this point, (see Atelier this week for example) except in cases where for instance a game has most of its fanbase on PS.
