Like I said before, this is something new for console gamers. People who bought the PS4/X1 in the first 5 months of their life didn't have any other choice but to play the few games available to them. People buying PS5/XSX now can keep cleaning up their backlog with no rush, with the added incentive that those games now run better than ever.

If your reason to buy a PS5 is to play your  "many" PS4 backlogs, it would be more logical if you just keep on using your PS4 with these games and buy an upgraded, midgen version of the PS5 in about 3 years. Besides, many games about to be released on the early life of PS5 are crossgen with the PS4. Because once the PS5 Pro comes, the PS5 that you had bought to play your PS4 games is now outdated. Unless, shelling out is not an issue for you.

Clearly shelling out is not an issue for the people buying a brand new $499 console at launch. And these oversimplifications will never reflect the reality of why people buy a console. No one is buying a PS5 with the sole intention of Playing PS4 games, but the improved PS4 games is an added incentive which makes them more comfortable early adopting ahead of bigger releases due in the next 12months.

MH Rise digital ratio is looking like 33%

Anyone know what it was for MHW or Animal Crossing?

Rise is most likely over 35% as the figures we know would lead us to believe that it's actually above 2.5 million in Japan; while Famitsu figures are pretty close to physical shipments because during the first two weeks it was pretty much sold out.

MHW was around 33%

New Horizon was between 40-50% at launch in Japan(voucher program doing work).

Thanks! Digital has been surprisingly prevalent for a while it seems.

With New Horizons I don't think was as much the voucher program as the fact that physical copies were completely sold out for a while at launch. All these 3 had that problem to varying extents. AC also launched at the beginning of the pandemic which probably made digital a more appealing option to some, though I think that was a bigger factor in the West than Japan.

gameplaywise if you go from 1080p@30fps => 4k@60fps its a new game/experience
not even taking about loadtimes take dragon age inquistion for example, thats a game i enjoy but never bothered pick up again because of the horrendous loadtimes on a ps4 or the witcher 3 etc etc

I've played games in 480p and 1080p and would not consider them new game/experiences. Also have gone from 30 to 60 and not considered them new experiences. 99% positive I wouldn't play Spider-man on PS5 and wonder if I'd played it already or if were a sequel. I think your definition of new game/experience is a bit loose.

But, I don't think it really is new. The PS4Pro and XBox One were things that existed. And besides that, I think console owners were aware that PCs were a thing that exists and can do that. If that was really important to them, I imagine they'd be playing on PC.

So again, I just have a hard time envisioning that many people who are paying 500 dollars to replay their old games in upgraded form. I'd assume they're buying something that's specifically on the PS5.

Well PS4 will end up short of 10m units sold, which means many skipped the PS4 altogether, I could these people buying the PS5 to play the PS4 hits now and be ready for the PS5 hits when they come.

Switch should stay in the lead YoY, because next 2020 week we have only 25k due to shortages. It was close ^^

I think the PS5 is making progress in that we see another new title along with its PS4 brother. This gives a good idea how much of the Playstation base is still playing PS4 games and how many have moved onto the PS5. Looks like it is about 3:1 for PS4:PS5. Once these ratios get flipped compared to where they are this week, we'll have a pretty good idea how PS5 is going to do in the long haul.

Yeah two easy weeks coming up with the shortages that happened after the AC launch last year. Switch '21 should pull back over 100k lead the next two weeks and then hold it for the next few weeks after that.

Will be interesting to see where the baseline settles after that - to see if baseline is above last year considering better software lineup this year. My guess is it'll track pretty close to last year until the holidays. If new model hits early Fall, then BotW2 and Pokemon for the holidays, '21 is gonna blow through 6 million in Japan.

wtf haha

That's the most bizarre and obviously untrue statement about games I've ever seen anyone make. Even an N64 or PS1 game brought up to 4k and 60fps wouldn't make this remotely true. You're trying reallllllllly hard to say that graphics are what makes a game.

meh im not here to convince you, thats just my experience with going to new hardware both on PC and console

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

If not for the release of Outriders, this could well have been the 100% Switch top 30 that's been threatening to happen for months.
I wonder if it'll ever actually come to pass.
