Damn Switch dropped. Maybe it's lack of stock, as it is likely Nintendo focused on Black Friday in the west this week. But probably largely due to no big holiday title. Nintendo really dropped the ball by not having a single major game for the holiday season. 6 million for the year in Japan looks unlikely looking at this week.

Also why are they not combining Pokemon with the Pokemon+Expansion Pack set? Both of those are selling Sword/Shield right? They should be combined. Or is this just how famitsu does stuff?

Pretty much. They'll also count sales of "new price versions" seperately, stuff like Nintendo Selects for example.

There is NO big hit for the Switch this Christmas. Why are you still so many to bring back the shortage explanation.
This financial Q3 will be weaker than the 2020 Q3.

Japan's holiday season isn't the same as America's and Europe's, because it doesn't start in earnest until about mid-December and then it extends into mid-January. So it's too soon to worry about 2020 just yet

I didn't actually know this, this does put the numbers in better context. If this were the holiday season this would be a worrying low set of numbers all around, but 145k for the leader before the holiday rush ain't bad.

Its really only bad when you compare to 2019 ans 2020.

Also disappointing considering the year its had to this point.

This time in 2019 weren't we just coming off the system's first mainline Pokemon? It's tough to compete with that.

yeah in east asia holidays tend to be from mod december to well into january.

in fact japan actually has the shortest holiday duration, most other asian countries celebrate lunar new year which is usually early to mid febuary.

and besides, nintendo can more then make up for this with Q4 MHR

You are correct, that's the basic explanation. It also has the Switch Lite factor from two months earlier.

And I'll add, given the context, it's not particularly disappointing at ~75% the sales.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I think it is safe to say that Japanese gamers are not buying the next-gen consoles to play next-gen games.

Scalpers maybe?
