You are still able to pre order Xbox Series S in the UK, whilst both PS5 models are sold out .

Here in Australia, Series X sold out within hours but after almost 48 hours There is plenty of Series S stock.

Both PS5 models sold out within minutes/hours and the major retailer here (EB Games) already sold out stock for early 2021.

So maybe PS5 has more stock but also it seems that demand is much higher compared to Series X/S

Oh really? interesting. 

Well it's way too early to tell but we'll see if Jim Ryan was right about reduced spec editions of a console.

Early adopters don't care about the reduced spec Series S. PS5 had more stock, so it sold more. That's how it goes.

This isn't exactly relevant. Here in Greece PS5 pre orders are all sold out as well. Both the XSX and XSS have been available for pre order in major retailers for days. All retailers that I have checked still have available stock allocation for both Xbox consoles at this time.

I think COVID may help both boost their overall sales in short term at least.
Series S seems to be a hard sell, and I see the attractiveness of 1080p console reducing over time.
Have to say Sony's SKU split seems better, and I wouldn't be surprised to see MS follow it later.
If Series S really bombs I guess MS could drop it, which is bad for either devs who support it, or Series S owners if devs don't support it.

Here in holland ps5 is sold out till the star of 2021.

PS5 having greater demand shouldn't come as a surprise but I wonder if stock is a factor as well.

I think this was a guaranty in the rest of the world. I think we need more info of how well is doing in the US.

Strong moves from Xbox are making waves amongst the most hardcore gamers, but mass majority of gamers will take years to grasp what Microsoft is building.

The first 18 months of PS5 vs XBS will be very strong in favor of PS5. Sony looks to be releasing Gran Turismo 7, Spider-Man Miles Morales + Spider-Man Remastered, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War: Ragnarok, Ratchet and Clank, Demon's Souls, Sackboy's Big Adventure, and Astro's Playroom all in the first 18 months, or less. This could be the strongest 1st year lineup for any console to date.

Microsoft have set themselves up to get stronger and stronger throughout the generation, but the 1st 18 months to 2 years it looks like they are leaning on Gamepass and Value to drive XBS adoption. Basically, no 1st party exclusives, but a huge library of games for $10 - $15 a month.

Looking forward to seeing how it plays out. Right now, it still looks like PlayStation is going to build momentum on momentum, while Xbox has the potantial to return to 360 levels and beyond. Could this be the generation that console finally hit the main stream?
