Forums - Politics Discussion - EA getting slammed on social media for adding Colin Kaepernick to NFL 21 when he hasn't played since 2016

Except he's not playing in the NFL right now. I looked him up on wikipedia and he's basically bothering more with his autobiographical book than playing directly with the NFL, which would be seen and heard of on TV if he was anyway.

People got miffed when 343 was dicking around with Halo lore, and fans had their valid reasons, just like Football fans have valid reasons for a massive corp to stop using a player who played in the NFL 4 years ago, and currently isn't playing.

The main focus with these games, that you're not understanding, is that they are based on current seasons, not 4 or 20 years ago, otherwise we may as well have football player dating back from the 1920's by the "who cares" logic, and we know that doesn't fly.

Again, I hate sports, I hate EA sports games, but I understand that what they are doing is honestly stupid and pissing off fans interested in the games. If the sports games aren't allowed to be consistent, then honestly, why should any other game?.

I disagree completely.

Kaepernick is an active football player. He never retired.

UFA = Unrestricted Free Agent

EA Sports adds him as a free agent. What's the problem? It's part of the official "lore". If you don't like that, blame the NFL.

Besides, sports games have tons of old players and teams to use. NBA 2K series for example is full of classic teams, almost 70 in fact. Many of them can't even be considered legendary, they just had to add teams from each franchise so those fans wouldn't get angry.

And yes, they of course also add players that currently don't have a team into a free agent section. It's been that way for years - no, decades.

I never once said he had retired from football. I said he wasn't playing for the NFL currently.

EA still gets the blame for even coding it in in the first place. NFL don't have hired game coders, last time I checked, nor do they actively publish the game itself, that's all on EA, as they make the game and sell it.

You know when I said "add players from the 1920's" I was being literal to that example?. Like I want to push that logic so hard that it doesn't make any sense and is lauded for what it is, which is stupid, because these games are meant to be about the current season (for the majority part).

It's fine that you disagree, but others do not, so we'll have to chalk that up to the usual opinions part of the open discussion.

So according to your flawed logic, EA should remove the ability to create customized characters at once since none of them have ever played in any NFL season.

And if not, why would that be okay?

random custom characters, not actual known irl players, no, by all means allow for "custom" characters.

If their main goal is to be using irl players over "custom" ones, then that's the rule.

I like how we've gone sharply from "I disagree" to "you're wrong and have flawed logic = I wanted to call you objectively wrong", all from "it doesn't matter" no less (if it didn't truly matter, you wouldn't be arguing this hard and looking up certain sources, but okay, sure).

Keemstar and The Quartering.. what a dream team.

Hate eachother AND deserve eachother, perfect couple :p

Weird thing to be upset about on twitter. Franchise mode doesn’t have great simulation logic or realism, so who cares if he is rated an 81. An 81 in Madden is not great. Does he have a Superstar X-Factor skill?

Also Kaep was a fine QB in a shitty Chip Kelly system. The only sad thing here is that by peacefully protesting, he was blackballed from the league. And of course now that riots and looting is happening, all conservatives want to talk about is “well, why can’t they just protest peacefully”. It’s a joke.

As someone not fully invested in this story my take is:

He is not a good athlete but he kneeled during the anthem and now EA wants to score woke political points by idolizing him in the game.

I mean if you can’t be a star, do controversial things and make money off corporations piggybacking off the political spotlight I guess.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

My take is,
info from a few years ago
" Kaepernick signed a six-year contract extension with the 49ers, worth up to $126 million"

So does the NFL generally give $126 million dollar contracts to terrible players?

He won 11 games in his last 35 starts over the last 3 years of his career, including a stretch of only 4 wins in his list 24 starts, and 1 win in his last 11 starts.  Meanwhile, Jimmy Garoppolo won 5 straight games as soon as he was acquired and named the starter the following year.  Sometimes, it actually is about the man under center.

And sometimes it’s about the head coach, the offense, the defense, etc. I’m not surprised that in two seasons under Chip Kelly and Jim Tomsula that the 49ers weren’t any good. I’m also not surprised that under Kyle Shanahan the 49ers have built a dominant run game and good defense. They ranked 29th in pass attempts last season, so it’s not as if Jimmy G is leading them to victories.

Lol he's never going to play at this point, why add him?

Because he is an American Hero that had his career taken away from him

He surrendered his career.
