Why bother trying to keep interest in a gen that will end in under 3 months though? 

Somehow, hose 2020 numbers remind me more the numbers of PS4 vs XBO and Wii U after BF, XBO replacing the Wii U, PS4 the XBO and Switch the PS4, and the whole thing 4 months early.

Because the previous generation always continues into the next generation for a few years. Some heavy hitters even hit only the previous gen when the next gen consoles are out. On top of that the consoles still sell well after next gen launches. 

Switch is already at 14m with 4.5 months left.  All of this seems unreal.  A lot of times the holiday quarter is 50% (or more) of annual sales, and Nintendo tends to be more heavily weighted during the holidays than Sony or Microsoft.  Of course we know that part of that 14m is due to boost from COVID, but still, at this point the COVID boost is over and Switch is still selling like crazy.

The even more nuts thing is that we still don't really know what Nintendo games are going to be released for the rest of the year, lol.  With the way Switch is selling though, it will probably be around 16m total once the holiday quarter starts.

If the Switch sells exactly the same amount as it did in the last 4.5 months of 2019, it’ll sell 26 million in 2020.

I seriously believe that if Nintendo can make 30mil, they'll sell 30mil. Depending on how many they make, this may be the 1st or 2nd best selling year for any console.

It seems that stock issues for PS4 got better this week (16-22 August). So there should be a increase, probably small, in sales.

But c’mon Sony. Both slim and pro are 4 years old and getting replaced in about 3 months.

There has never been an innovation in all of gaming that has led to more sales than making a device that plugs into the TV also able to be played whilst planting one's bum firmly on a bidet awaiting the sweet probing refreshment that is Isabelle informing you about socks.

I'm not saying discontinue PS4/Xbone ASAP, but ideally Sony/MS would prefer people to move on to PS5/XSX rather than stick with their current systems. PS4/Xbone will carry on for a while under their own inertia, but the efforts of their parent companies would be better spent on the devices that represent their future for the next seven years rather than the generation that's coming to an end.

On a side note, I didn’t think I would see a day where a Nintendo system would outsell all the other systems, especially PlayStation, combined IN EUROPE.
