To me the gameplay on Zelda 2 is perfect.  Any changes would make it worse.

The issue with Zelda 2, and Zelda 1 as well, is generational.  Anyone who started playing Zelda when it was 3D thinks the NES Zeldas are wrong or primitive.  But the truth is that the NES is actually when Zelda was at the peak of its popularity.  On the NES Zelda was the #2 franchise.  It has never been that popular since.  Even on the Switch, with Breath of the Wild, Zelda is only #4.

Changing Zelda 2 would be like changing Shakespeare, because it's not like modern TV.  It's perfect the way it is, but some people just don't get it.

I don’t think that’s the right way to look at it.

Both Switch and NES have sold 62 million units:

Zelda 1 only sold 6.51 million, and Zelda 2 sold 4.38 million; but Breath of the Wild has sold 18.6 million. To me that indicates that Breath of the Wild has reached more people and is therefore more popular.

I do agree with keeping Zelda 2 around in its original form - I tend to like the original adaptations of games myself, but I am also not against having an update of the game.

Even Shakespeare has been revised and adapted.

Yeah, this is what I was originally asking for.  I want an updated version of Zelda 2 (and Zelda 1 and Link to the Past) that is similar to the Link's Awakening remake.  Updated graphics with some QoL refinements.  I don't want them to radically change the game like FF7 Remake though.

- Obviously Pikmin 4
- New kind of action-adventure game by EPD
- Another big RPG by any big Nintendo studio
- New kind 2D Mario, different from the New series.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Rather than I guess remastered versions of the 2D Zeldas which is what you want, I'd rather they make a brand new 2D Zelda with the LA-remake graphics. That'd be fantastic. Fine just having the original 2D Zeldas on Switch Online, don't need anything else done with those. We don't need remastered versions of 30 year old games, a new 2D Zelda would be fantastic, and would keep in line with the idea of consolidated divisions in Nintendo to one system and therefore releasing handheld type series (like 2D Zelda) on the Switch.

I wish the P4G remaster was ported to Switch (or PS4), I'd love to have a physical copy + my laptop is not exactly suited for gaming. I would also mention P5R but at least that game is on PS4, so I can play it there.

Also, like the user above said, a brand new 2D Zelda with LA remake graphics would be great.

One game I forgot to mention: A new Itadaki Street would be really nice.

It's on my avatar. Sadly do think it will ever see the light of day again 😔

Mystic Quest (Seiken Densetsu 1), the first ever handheld action RPG, was remade twice: Sword of Mana and Adventures of Mana. Sword of Mana is one of my most hated remakes while Adventures of Mana is one of my most loved.

Sword of Mana was a 2D remake on GBA that “fixed” a lot of stuff that wasn’t broken, and bulked up the story as if the original wasn’t good enough. As a result, I found much of the tension of the original script was lost. Sometimes a few quick lines deliver a more emotional experience than 4-6 pages of dialogue. What they were going for was something that more resembled Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2).

Adventures of Mana was both more ambitious and more true to the original experience. It took the original 2D monochrome game and adapted it to 3D. While the game looks very different on the surface, it feels much closer to Mystic Quest than Sword of Mana does.

The Square side of Square Enix is generally not as good as the Enix side at mobile versions of games, but Adventures of Mana is a whopping exception.

Speaking of which, Square! If you have eyes in this forum: bring Adventures of Mana to Switch! Also, port over the SaGa 2 remake.
