Forums - Microsoft - Official Xbox July Showcase 2020 thread

Kinda let down to be honest.

The only thing that stood out to me was Halo, which while below my expectations visually, does look pretty awesome gameplay wise.

Otherwise, way too many cinematics and way too little actual gameplay.

I'm also still waiting to see a game that really looks like a true generational leap.

It's starting to like the whole thing about SSD's fixing pop-in was a load of bunk. First we had GT7 with lots of pop-in on the Sony show, now Halo Infinite with lots of pop-in on the Xbox show.

In the case of GT7, it was (as far as I remember seeing) only shadow/lighting pop-ins. Which would fall exclusively under the GPU side of things, and not asset streaming.

Halo Infinite had assets popping in, but to be fair, they were pretty far and not all that many. That being said, I don't think people should expect every single graphical imperfections that have been around since the beginning of 3D graphics to go away completely by the start of the gen.

I'll take a closer look at home on the 4k big screen, but that does appear to be the case from what I can see on a cheap 1080p laptop.

I can agree with your latter point, but I've said before that more than anything in next gen graphics I just want visual blemishes like aliasing, pop-in, low polys, poor filtering, and limited draw distances to become nearly imperceptible. We're close in some games but not in others. I'd really like to get there by the end of the generation.

Pop in is due to being made for a HDD, it was on a X1.

Halo demo is 10/10

Seriously?

Seriously????

I know people's health can depend on a few games their favourite console is showing.

This demo of halo certainly wasn't healthy. For "the most powerful console in the world", it was extremely disappointing to say the least.

Are you blind? It was epic and trolled the world with its elevator

Maybe one framedrop when chief dropped in the turret maybe

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I'm sure the elevator is less of a troll and is more there due it having an XB1 version. Unless they really wanted you to look around and see the pop in which I doubt

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Just finished watching the Showcase.. I was so hyped for Halo going into this.
Cross gen titles aint it Microsoft.... boy where do i even begin, screw it. I dont know how many more " maybe next time" i have left in me for Xbox, think im done.

I think the reason the Banished leader's textures look low-rez is the depth of field effect. Only his eye area is in focus, while the closer portion of his face and his armor are both out of focus. So, his texture work is probably quite a bit better than what we could actually discern.

I was excited to jump back into Xbox, but that excitement has decidedly cooled off.
Maybe Hellblade II will change my mind, but so far, in terms of my overall impression of Gen 9, I'm getting the same vibe as the current gen in that it feels like a shinier but less interesting Gen 7.

So... I've been playing MCC, and am looking forward to Infinity. Maybe it's the stream, I've got a 4k TV, but this didn't really look any different to me visually than playing MCC games? Not trying to troll here, gameplay is most important aside from story for me anyway, but just saying I don't see how that is next gen?

Aside from that, I'm REALLY excited for Grounded, Everwild, Psychonaughts 2, Out World's expansion, Echo Generation, Avowed, The Gunk

I'm intrigued to find out more on Tell Me Why, Fable, As Dusk Falls, Tetris Connect, Crossfire, and Phantasy Star.

Not at all interested in Exomecha, State of Decay 3, Hellblade, Forza, Stalker 2, Warhammer Darktide, Scorn, or The Medium.

So of the games shown, I was pleased to see trailers/information on 14 out of 22 new games/expansions, or 64%.
