Forums - Microsoft - Official Xbox July Showcase 2020 thread

I've now had some time to go back and rewatch most of the show. I thought Halo looked good but there was some pop-ins I'm concerned about. I was hoping for more gameplay not trailers. Overall I started at a good solid 7.5/10, by the end I was left wanting more. I have to give this presentation a 6.8/10 not enough for a 7.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

Pretty good show with nice variety of different games! More gameplay would've been welcome though and we didn't see a huge generational leap in visuals but 4k60fps is where it's at.

Halo looks stunning, gameplay, art style, everything. Wanted to see more Fable too and also actual gameplay for State of Decay.

8/10.

They would first need to show the game. I can get behind a CGI trailer, but any excitement towards Avowed is just due to the developer right? I mean what we saw was an extremely generic CGI representation of a western RPG.

That’s a bit reductive. It’s essentially a Xbox exclusive of the next Skyrim with LOTR elements. No small premise, CGI or not.

I was almost sure a ballrog would appear out of that giant flaming door, really i was getting hyped for it to be a Lord of the rings game.

That was one of the okayest conferences I've ever seen. A decent amount of variety. Nothing that screamed buy a new console, but enough that I'd be happy if I was an XBox owner.

I think Gamepass is a gamechanger though. There are a lot of games where normally I'd just think "totally not my sort of thing" and mentally check out, but if they're part of a subscription I'm gonna have anyway, then they suddenly become more interesting. I still think promoting Gamepass is far more important to MS than promoting XBox Series X, and in that regard it was successful.

Watched a 4K video of Halo and it looks much cleaner. That’s the word I think best describes it. The stream wasn’t the best quality.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Youtube compression algorithms in a nutshell.

Not sure how MS came to a conclusion that going with that artstyle for a next gen Halo would be a good idea. I'm just really confused by what I was seeing - I literally bought my 360 directly because of the Halo 4 E3 demo. Not only was the visuals lacklustre, but the gameplay seems completely unchanged minus the Pathfinder hook :D Not to mention, that if you were following all the teasers etc. there was no indication of this type of aesthetic.

BUT as a person who buys mostly PS games, I think the rest of the show did enough to offset the Halo disappointment. There were some real competition for Sony on display today. Oddly I actually think that this show, reminded me a lot of a fairly typical Sony showcase, not only in pacing, but in the variety of games that was shown.

The ones that caught my attention, and has me considering a Series X:

- Everwild
- Avowed
- Hellblade 2
- State of Decay 3 (not really a fan but this one looked interesting)
- Ori
- Forza
- CrossfireX
- The Gunk (this looked amazing)
- Fable!!!!!!! ( I was really hoping for just a glimpse of gamplay :( )

I guess the one thing holding all these next gen showcases back is the lack of gameplay. Its quite concerning, considering we are only months away from console launches.

If I think back to some of the iconic E3 gameplay reveals like God of War 3, Halo 4, Gears, Forza, Uncharted 2 etc. that seems to be lacking this year. And I feel it somewhat lowers the expectation going into next gen, and maybe thats a good thing.

I didn't watch the showcase, for those that did how much Gameplay did we get in comparison to the PS5 event?

And were the trailers gameplay focused (Like Deathloop) or were they more sort of in engine pretty trailers like Horizon: Forbidden West?

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

In conclusion, 60+fps graphics will never look as realistic as 30fps graphics.
