Or a standalone like Left Behind with Tommy and Joel.

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Its clear the boycott fell on its face.

Still enjoying it. Well deserved as far as I am concerned.

Sony just posted on the PlayStation Blog that sales of The Last of Us Part II have exceeded 4 million copies sold through as of June 21. This makes it the fastest selling PS4 exclusive.

"We’re delighted to report that The Last of Us Part II is now the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive ever with more than 4 million copies sold through as of June 21. This milestone would not have been reached without the support from our amazing fans, so on behalf of everyone at SIE, thank you!"

Looks like that Meta Critic outrage brigade was wildly successful. Good job!

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

What's the chance we will see a first week update to sales?

Very expected since its coming off the first game and on a console with over 100m units sold. Ill be more interested in this games legs due to the negative feedback its getting from players.
4m in 3days is alot so congrats to Sony and ND.

Congrats Sony and Naughty Dog. This is people voting with their wallet that a good story is worth paying for.

Indeed its a great milestone, however i wouldn't say these people buying the game on its release are buying it for the story since they dont even know the story yet..

This situation might end up turning out like Avengers Endgame.  The movie was hugely successful the first week, so much that I thought it would smash Avatar's record.  In the end it had terrible legs, but it did very barely limp past Avatar.  Why were the legs bad?  Did people hate the movie?  No, people greatly praised how great it was.  The real reason it was front loaded was that people wanted to avoid spoilers, so they all saw it as fast as possible before they accidently found out too much on the internet.

I could see TLoU2 ending up in a similar situation.  There are spoilers everywhere right now about this game.  I personally know the main twist that happens near the beginning, even though I didn't go seeking out spoilers in any way.  Whether you love or hate this game, it is hard to deny that there are spoilers everywhere about it.  And I can see a very common reaction being, "I'm just going to play it and decide for myself."

So, I don't know if the sales will be front loaded or not, but I see this as a very likely scenario, even if people really like the game.  It's not a secret that the story is one of the main selling points, so people probably want to play ASAP before they get accidentally spoiled.
