Why are so many police having accidents at these protests? These largely peaceful protests? Are they slipping on banana peels and stepping on randomly placed rakes...

I wonder whose bright idea it was to use horses in protests...

Two officers were seriously injured, including a Mounted Branch officer who was knocked from her horse when it hit a set of traffic lights whilst appearing to bolt.

Ms Ahmed, who was not at Downing Street during the disturbance, said a "lot of people" she spoke to "feared for their lives when they saw police horses". "I don't think that was the best tactic to use if you're trying to create a peaceful environment," she said.

Sure they are trained to remain calm in loud messy environments yet,
A. What can you do while sitting on a horse, except club people or trample them.
B. All animals have their limits no matter how well trained.
C. Horses can seriously injure people or even kill them.

Mounted police, just another dumb tradition that needs to go.

They are beautifully polished horses though, tax money well spent...

Oh yeah and they do not even need to be big horses to be able to hurt or kill, the breed in that vid is also a pretty calm kind of breed and i prefer to be around these. My sister got a stallion that's in his puberty currently and he will ''playfully'' hurt you if he can :p

Mounted police are good for long patrols through nature, seeing them amongst crowds and being a target of them is so sad.

Oh yeah those most likely cost a lot,not particulary the breed of horse but the training.

They've proven themselves to be a great deterrent in the past, this time however some "peaceful" protestors wanted havoc and terrorized the animals, throwing objects at them.

A great 'deterrent' that only works against actual peaceful protesters. And then still accidents can happen. When the protest turns ugly, the horses are completely useless except to hurt people or their rider. So not a deterrent at all actually, only effect is to intimidate peaceful protesters.

At this point I feel like nothing Trump says any more shocks me, but wow, this may be his worst tweet yet.

Yeah, that's really freaking bad, even by Trump standards.

Old dude trying to return a riot helm.... gets pushed and cracks his skull as he falls.

Trump is saying he purposefully did that?
Ei. he wanted to fall bad and crack open his own skull?

*insert "sure jan" gif here*

Conspiracy theories about him "wanting to fall badly and crack open his own skull" + "its just cuz hes a antifa provocateur"....
doesn't he realise how crazy that makes him sound?

I was gonna say the same thing. Absolutely idiotic to have police on horses. Just like... why?

Granted, it's better showing up on a horse than with military grade hardware, but it's still stupid.

I could see a reason on the countryside, especially in remote places with lots of open fields, as a horse can get you practically everywhere, is faster and more endurant than someone on foot and doesn't rely on fuel which may be more difficult to get in such regions.

In a city however? Except maybe for some ceremonial traditions like at Buckingham Palace, they don't have any reason to be there anymore.

We do have riding Police in Luxembourg, too. But they don't ride horses, they ride motorbikes and increasingly bicycles.

That's what deterrent means, they've stopped large groups of protestors in the past from becoming unruly so why would the police change tactic now. If you get violent you risk being trampled by a horse, the definition of deterrent. This is the protestors fault and they went the route of mutually assured injury. Who the fuck throws things at a animal? Deviants and violent thugs.

It's the job of the police to protect the people. That goal is not possible to achieve from on top of a horse.

What are they going to do when they see an instigator, run him down knocking other people out of the way?
Protesters throwing things is nothing new.
Horses are skittish animals by nature, you can train them to get used to and remain calm for as many things as you can yet anything new to them will still spook a horse and make the nervous. (For some reason here horses are very skittish around bicycles. When I meet one on the trail or even coming from the opposite direction on a dirt road, I'm always afraid the horse is going to knock the rider off so badly do they 'fear' me riding a bicycle. Sometimes I have to stop and get off while talking calmly to the horse so they can pass)

Who puts a 1,000 kg animal in a crowd of people, risking injury to people and the animal. It's the fault of carrying on dumb traditions while better, safer, cheaper, less provocative measures are available.

It's hard to belief that's actually real. I guess it must be

https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/2020/06/09/amherst-man-pushed-police-says-after-trump-tweet-black-lives-matter/5325567002/

Gov. Andrew Cuomo ripped the president's tweet, saying he should apologize for "the reprehensible, dumb comment," calling it written with "no proof whatsoever." Cuomo said angrily during his briefing Tuesday: "Do you think it was staged? Do you think the blood coming out of his head was staged?"

Anyone not fed up with Trump yet?

Twitter said that it considered Trump’s tweet speculative and that did not violate the platform’s rules, the Post reported.

Wtf Twitter. I wonder if Gugino's lawyer can sue the President and Twitter for slander or libel in this case. Should be an open and shut case.

The even sadder part is that dumb tweet has over 70k likes. He must have taken over Alex Jones fanbase after he got kicked off twitter. Probably half of them are bots. Bots have turned social media from a joke into a shitshow. Glad I've been off shitty facebook since 2011 and never joined twitter.

I remember when he had Dorsey at white house and was complaining about losing followers saying it was conspiracy against republicans.  I still don't think he understood why they were removed even after Dorsey told them they were bots.

Like I said before, if your first go to move is to use excessive force, before trying anything else, in a situation that wasn't even serious or dangerous, then you should not be wearing the uniform.
It doesn't matter that they didn't mean to crack his skull. The point is, they're dumb enough to unnecessarily cause a life and death situation out of nothing. And in that situation, you don't get a second chance.

If a pilot accidentally crashed a plan because of a completely unnecessary maneuver, you wouldn't want to fly with him again.

This goes along with something I've said many times to people recently.  Some jobs require experts in their craft.  Some jobs cannot tolerate mistakes.

It stems from a comedy routine by Chris Rock who said, "Ya know, American Airlines can't be like, 'Most of our pilots like to land. We just got a few bad apples that like to crash into mountains.'"

That's always been my issue with the "bad apples" argument that also says "there are bad teachers, mechanics, Mickey D's fry cooks."

There is very little room for error in a profession whose members are issued deadly weapons by the government and are protected from prosecution or lawsuits by qualified immunity, and there is certainly no room for outright malice on a police force.
