I was gonna say the same thing. Absolutely idiotic to have police on horses. Just like... why?

Granted, it's better showing up on a horse than with military grade hardware, but it's still stupid.

I could see a reason on the countryside, especially in remote places with lots of open fields, as a horse can get you practically everywhere, is faster and more endurant than someone on foot and doesn't rely on fuel which may be more difficult to get in such regions.

In a city however? Except maybe for some ceremonial traditions like at Buckingham Palace, they don't have any reason to be there anymore.

We do have riding Police in Luxembourg, too. But they don't ride horses, they ride motorbikes and increasingly bicycles.
