Forums - Sony Discussion - Unreal Engine 5 Announced + PS5 Demo

A 2-minute playable tech demo generated a lot more hype than an entire MS show that put me to sleep.

Well, the logo at CES generated a lot more reaction, twets, rts, etc than the whole Xbox Series X reveal in December.

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Who else would love this to be a real game in development?

I would, it gives me the Uncharted vibe.

Probably not wrong other than the edge cases when it comes to Ps5's SSD being faster than current high-end PCs although some are close already at 5GB/s speeds:

By the time Ps5 comes out though... Might be another story as the upcoming SSDs are supposed to be 6.5GB/s vs 5.5GB/s on the ps5.

But the question will ultimately come down to is how much of that is gonna get used for most games?

They have to be over 7 GB/s to function in the PS5, because it's not just the transfer speed that's the issue, but the 6 true true priority levels in the PS5 SSD, while commercial SSD's have 2. Among some other things, the commercial SSD's will need a bit more speed to make up for the difference.

Guess we will see how it goes since companies don't exactly release info such as priority levels and etc to the general public as far as I can tell... So I have my doubts.

True, at least as far as initial reactions are concerned.

But after a while everyone is going to realize that the unimpressive third party showings in Microsoft's event will be the same for the PS5, and that the much better received UE5 demo will be the same for the XSX.

Um first reactions are the biggest.  The 3rd party showcase was a mess and the message disconnect between Microsoft and Ubisoft for Assassin's Creed Valhalla is not a good look either.  Microsoft is the one making bold claim about their console.  As it fails to live up to them, that's going to tarnish its image...again.

Not really, tech demos are all great and good for showing the future but when you are ready to purchase either a PS5, XSX or PC/Upgrade, on the games that are release at the time will have any meaning.  There is no tarnish since MS showed what is releasing this year which anyone who has been on this rodeo knows will be cross gen games, especially from 3rd party developers.  We need to see MS and Sony first party to make any real judgement.

Damn that’s gorgeous. Well played Sony, well played. MS shows a underwhelming showcase (graphically speaking) and Sony comes in and gives the people what they wanted to see by attaching their name to this.

Either way it’s promising for both sides. A good chunk of XGS use Unreal Engine.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

See, something like this is what the Xbox reveal was missing. What really blows my mind is that this is running on a PS5. Not some beefed up quad SLI 24-core monster PC, but an honest to God next-gen console.

I guess this means that Hellblade II VGA teaser was actually running in real-time? I couldn't believe it until just now.

Most impressive next gen thing I've seen so far. Can't wait!

Don't really see the big deal. Same demo will run on the XSX and run better than that and Nvidia's 30 series cards available this fall will run that far better than both. Epic confirmed any NVMe speed SSD can run that just fine, so enough with the "only with the magic of the PS5 SSD" bull sh*t. Just marketing fluff.

A demo of what 0.01% of console games will look like next gen...and most of them wont use Unreal 5. yay...

and how many % of console games released during a gen do you buy/play?
