Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch now at half of PS4 lifetime sales

PS4 will cap at 120-130 million

Its still up in the air if SW will hit 100 million.

But if we're being realistic....thats a bit silly.

Switch should still have pretty healthy sales by the time it passes 100 million. It'll probably pass 100 million holidays 2022, so even if Switch 2 launches in 2023 there's no way Switch ain't hitting 100 million. If Switch 2 launches 2024 then a realistic target is 115+ million.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Switch sales for 2020-2022 will be greater than Switch sales for 2017-2019.  Switch was still in slow mode during 2017 and 2018.  Now we are seeing it's true form.

The switch is still having very healthy sales and it is Hybrid so it has those handheld legs that makes nintendo handhelds sell so well.  Also we don't know what the second half of 2020 will bring it could very well be the Mario games meaning tons of fans will buy switches just for those games. Also no price cut which when that happens the sales will get a boost. Also 2021 will have big first party games in it since mp4 being scrapped and restarted last year and some studios said they will port next gen games to the system and the system has no competition from anyone else.

Great for Nintendo. The more the better.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Willing to bet the actual number is closer to 60 million right now. Nintendo was at 53 million months ago. The switch has been hard to find.

I think PS4 will easily sell more still because Sony consoles still tend to sell quite a bit even when their successors are on the market while Nintendo console sales drop faster than an obese American falling down a cliff. It's just a testament to how well Sony supports their consoles (excluding Vita).

Regardless amazing achievement for both consoles.

While that is true for most of Nintendo's home consoles (N64, GCN, Wii, Wii U), it does not seem to be true for their handheld consoles. Well, besides maybe the GBC that is.

I think Nintendo will support the Switch better after its successor comes out than they have in a while. But I still don't think it will make much of a sales difference. Competitors PS5 and Xbox Series X will affect Switch sales, even though they won't fall off a cliff. I really don't see a situation where the Switch outsells the PS4. The PS4 is looking at 120-130 million lifetime sales. Switch is looking at about 95-105 million.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

SW is at 54 million now iirc. It would need to sell 46 million in two years, completely impossible for your prediction. Its still up in the air if this year will be the peak.

Thats not how console sales work. We're either at or nearing SW's peak. Its going to be going down soon and the question is by how much.

Can it follow PS4's incredible holds or will it go down like a more traditional Nintendo system.

Do you really think so?
The switch is still on sale for $299.
There is no price cut yet.

Switch has sold over 48 million by the end of 2019. It sold >3 million the first 3 months of 2020 only in Japan+USA. It's most likely at around 5 million worldwide for Q1 2020. Everyone who still doubt about 100 million is delusional, as it really is a pessimist prediction right now.

That's what it should sell:
2020 = 20 million (i just don't see how it possible to sells less than that this year)
2021 = 15 million (25% drop)
2022 = 10 million (33% drop)
2023 = 5 million (50% drop, new console launch)

And even with such an unrealistic prediction like that, it STILL reach 98 million + what it sells after 2023. Like dudes, stop it.
