Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch now at half of PS4 lifetime sales

It'll be close.

A potential $199 PS4 shakes things up though especially in the RoTW markets.

Gonna be interesting to see how much Series X and PlayStation 5 cut into the Switch, if they do at all.

Equally as interesting to see what Nintendo has planned to compete with those two launches to keep the Switch as the go to platform for the massmarket audience.

Nintendo used to sell Handheld Device + Console
Now they only sell Switch
They are selling millions less units and has lost market share because of this.

(lol)

It is easier to have one system, which is why all three console makers now have one system.

Their market share has gone up :/

Edit: I think you misunderstand the situation when they had two separate platforms the market share they had was divided so they were third in home consoles while market leader in portables. Now they have a monopoly on portables meaning their market share went up on that market while in the home console front they're now second but with a gen 9 platform so will soon be market leader for the rest of gen 9 when they arrive so for all intents and purposes their market share has gone up.

Two platforms may have had more units sold combined (although Switch will outsell both its predecessors combined LT) but then two platforms require more resources to maintain.

Switch will outsell 3DS and Wii U combined by a sizable margin so this is a hilariously bad take.

Remember when the Switch stopped selling after 2017 because they'd used all their big IPs in the first year and all the hardcore Nintendo fans had bought one but the Wii U proved there's only around 13.5 million of those?

Or when it declined in 2019 because this time they'd definitely used all their big games and Sword/Shield wouldn't be a system seller cos Pokemon fans already bought one for Let's Go?

Or when it wouldn't outsell the Xbox One because it didn't have the graphics, third party support, or multimedia features that Xbone had?

We'll look back at today's proclamations of doom the same way.

Switch is outselling Wii U plus 3DS combined launch-aligned, so...

No chance.

PS4 will cap at 120-130 million

Its still up in the air if SW will hit 100 million.

agreed the cliff is coming sooner then later

Slick Rick just rolled over in his virtual grave....

Switch will be the best selling console of all time. Not just this generation.

The price cut has yet to happen.
