Forums - Nintendo - Staring into the abyss of a world where Nintendo has no games scheduled for release. Edit: The Time of Darkness Has Arrived

With Pikmin remaster and now 3D Mario Allstars, I'll officially say that Nintendo gets a free pass from me for the rest of 2020. 3D World is w/the extra content is nice but I didn't much care for it at least for single player.

As I believe I've harped on quite a bit already - I'm fine this year between the backlog and still catching up buying older games/remasters. Given the circumstances of Covid the slowing development makes sense to a degree (though I don't see why they can't do much of the work remotely).

But with that said, if we're seeing a similar drought (or mostly remakes/remasters) in 2021 - THAT is when I'll begin to take issue. But I do foresee a far stronger year, at least in the 2nd half of 2021. We should at the very least get BotW2 (MP4 is probably 2022). But I think it'll be far better as Nintendo I'm sure realize that will potentially be the peak year for the console until things start to slowly but surely decline a bit in 2022.

If Snap was three or four times the length of the original, with just as much quality I'd be happy with it, as a big Holidays title.

Bravely Default 2 isn't a Nintendo developed game, or even a Nintendo owned IP, so you can't really give Nintendo credit for it.

I didn't say developed or owned, I said published.

I know you said published. But I don't think that's what this thread is about. It's about what big new games Nintendo has developed or contracted another company to develop (using a Nintendo IP) for release exclusively on the Switch in 2020. I'm including games that Nintendo had another company develop using a Nintendo IP, just to cover games like Smash or Luigi's Mansion. A lot of people want to include 3rd party games or rereleases and say "What's the big deal?" But those people obviously didn't read the OP. So I'll put it here again...

Yeah, Animal Crossing's release is less than 48 hours away and Nintendo's got zero games dated for release beyond it. For that matter, they've still only got two TBA 2020 games in the pipeline (Xenoblade and publishing duty on Square Enix's Bravely Default II). About a month ago I pointed this out, but assumed we'd get a Direct before it became a thing. But those odds are approaching zero at this point. And, yes, there are 3rd party games coming, but no matter how much you might think they "should count" they don't as far as an objective look at Nintendo's release schedule.

Has there ever been a gaming company that has had any remotely similar situation? Where, in the middle of a successful console's life-cycle a company slipped into a void where their customers just had nothing definite to look forward to.

I realize that there's a good chance this will be remedied by the end of the month. If nothing else, their fiscal year is ending and they'll want to brag about their slate and Xenoblade seems like it's already been rated in some territories so it's probably coming soonish. But I wanted to mark this strange moment in time.

I wonder if they'll announce a game for November.

I don’t understand how so many people like snap, I rented the game once and got bored after 20 mins.

Similar experience here. A rental followed by almost immediate rejection. I can see the appeal on some levels though. I like good relaxing game once and a while. Now more than ever in fact. But at the time, I found it to be more boring than church, and incredibly shallow. Maybe I'd like it a lot more now, but giving it another chance is preeeety low on my to-do list.

Allstars is cool and all, however at the end of the day is still a remaster. The biggest problem with Nintendo, it is still lacking new content yet again. Same old pattern we seen in the last few console releases were nothing has come at a steady pace after the initial few years of Launch.

We shouldn't be content and giving Nintendo a free pass because of a Mario Anniversary Collection, which some way is given that something would happen.

Nintendo alone can't release more games unless they spend money, therefore they finally need to realise that 3rd parties are important and need to work harder in getting them to release games properly on their systems.  If they don't want do that, then they should spend some money and buy up  a few 2nd party studios or creating new ones to ensure there is a constant output of games.

They should also take criticism onboard about what people are complaining about on their systems. For example Crapcom and the way the release their games. Nintendo should go fuck people are complaining about this, how can we work with Crapcom to ensue those complaints don't happen, instead they let them do this dodgy shit and it makes you somewhat had the Switch for it.

$60?! Is Nintendo nuts for such an old game?

3 months of nothing ahead and then it will be broken by a $60 WiiU Port. A lot of people are happy for Pikmin 3 I guess, but a lot of people also won't be if there's nothing else between now and October 30th.

Pikmin ? Wow they are even running out of wiiu games.
Nintendo has no shame releasing an 8 year old game at full price, nioh 2 came out a few months ago and can be found at 30$, but I guess nintendo fans will still buy it so I wouldn’t mind if I worked for nintendo.

This is Nintendo being Nintendo. As usual. Since ever. Nintendo is the most expensive hobby in gaming. And yes, Nintendo fans would pay $80 and they would find justifications for it like "Nintendo games have high quality" and such as if no other developers make high quality games. But let me stop before I get banned.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

I don't see this as a big holiday title. Even if it looks better than the original one if I'm honest.

Do we know how many copies of Hyrule Warriors sold on Wii U and Switch?

Well this thread was entertaining but is now obsolete. Nintendo have several Switch games announced for the rest of 2020 (Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D All Stars, Mario Kart Live Home Circuit, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity) and even has a game dated for February 2021 (Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury).

What was it all for? Was it really that bad not knowing? After a long drought of not knowing they revealed several games in quick succession.

All rereleases, games not developed by Nintendo, and weird stuff like Home Circuit.

Until Nintendo has a new high profile Nintendo developed game for holidays 2020 this thread isn't obsolete.

Nothing will make it obsolete for many fans it seems like. Not even a worldwide pandemic can give Nintendo a break...
