I honestly think Capcom has no interest in getting acquired. At least not any time soon. They're doing so incredibly well quarter after quarter leaving the last decade of blunders mostly behind them with a lot of promise going forward.

And with this whole "PC will be our main platform going forward" initiative Capcom is pursuing, they definitely seem to be more interested in remaining in their current position.

Persona can definitely change though if Microsoft gets Sega in their sights which is always rumored to be the case. Granted this wouldn't be a remote possibility for at least a couple more years. Soul Hackers 2 will be a must this Fall on Xbox!

This actually reminds me of a video I saw a few weeks back, I can't remember the exact details but it argued against Capcom being acquired, along with the usual "Capcom is all in on PC" and Capcom doing amazing lately, it pointed out that Capcom is a family ran business, the CEO has two sons, both work at Capcom, one is the head of the Monster Hunter division and the video said he wanted to pass the company down to his sons.

I'd have to look into it more but I think if that is true then it's safe to say that Capcom would fight off any acquisition attempt like Ubisoft did in the past.

That's really interesting! Mind sending me a video link if you find it again?

Definitely not out of place. 3 of the top 10 selling games on Xbox last month were Activision games.

True but tbf, CoD games are always going to be in top 10's every year regardless of platform lol. I meant more as having them as a first party company when compared to other first party studios under Xbox.

But Ryuu pretty much nailed it. This'll bring in a substantial casual audience to Xbox and by a huge extension, Game Pass.

True having a CoD game in the top 10 is common but to have all 3 of the latestes CoDs is not. PS only had Vanguar din their top 10 sellers and that was #7/10.

Getting Activision is 100% worth for MS because they get major IPs and also a bigger foothold into areas that they wanted to expand into like PC/Mobile/GaS, Activision made 5 billion in MTX alone last year breaking their own record and it will likely happen again with Overwatch 2, Warcraft Mobile, Diablo Immortal, Diablo 4, MW2, Warzone 2, Warzone Mobile and the cash cow that is Candy Crush/King.

Personally I just don’t care anymore if the mainline CoD games don’t stay exclusive, the problem for me is that ActiBlizz don’t offer anything that I’m interested in or move the needle for me, It’s not really about exclusives but I would much rather have more investment go into traditional AAA games so WB/Eidos/Crystal would have been much more interesting purchase to me.

I know some want Xbox to own every studio under the sun or at least the ones they care for, but that's simply not reality and some studios are going to get bought up by other publishers. Imagine being a Sony fan who enjoyed any of the games from the studios Xbox has bought. Either get over it or buy the system those games will be on lol.

Yeah pretty much a given that Sony will gobble up SE now which means us on Xbox will be losing *checks notes* .... Oh

Quite alot actually:

  • Kingdom Hearts games after KH4
  • Nier games after Nier remake
  • Star Ocean games after The Divine Force
  • Dragon Quest games after DQ11
  • Potential sequels to The Diofield Chronicle

I'm more worried about Square's games on Nintendo platforms personally lol. The Switch has been Square's home this gen at revitalizing their old franchises. On top of the HD-2D games like Octopath, Triangle, and the Live A Live remake. Even super niche games like Front Mission 1&2 are getting remakes on the Switch.

Disney might have a say to make sure KH keeps coming to Xbox.

If Sony bought Square Enix it would be the death of the company for me, Sqenix already underfunds some of it's smaller IP like Front Mission and Star Ocean and I doubt that Sony would put more investment into those niche IP.

It also means the potential Westernization of other properties like Final Fantasy.

Really underwhelmed by Bugsnax. Especially by the poor performance which frequently drops into sub 30 regions (probably sub 20 FPS even).
I found a comment by a dev for the PS5 version:

"We'll be continuing to improve it over time, but unfortunately didn't get to optimize as much as we'd like as we got close to release.
We're a heavily single-threaded game unfortunately, which means most of the CPU cores on the PS5 are sitting unused. We're also not at all maxing out the GPU."

Played a lot of indie games with performance issues lately but this is probably the most jarring one.

Unless it's a game that'll sell upwards of 10 million copies, Sony isn't interested.

It sucks how dependent Sony is nowadays on making games that need to be critical darlings and massive commercial successes.

Definitely not the same Sony when Shawn Layden praised Vib Ribbon at E3 2014. His exact quote was "a personal favorite of mine that really embodies the PlayStation experience. It wasn't a multi-million seller but that's not the point. Vib Ribbon was unafraid to go against the tide. It was courageous in its ambition and it brought a completely new experience to gamers"

Todays Sony unfortunately no longer has this same mindset.
