Gonna go ahead and post my first 5.

#50 - A game about an animal time-travelling to get loads of different types of jewels.
#49 - Though released on a somewhat forgotten console (if it can even be called a "console"), it was the predecessor to this franchise's most important and successful game, which was released on a far more popular system.
#48 - An indie game which got loads of free new content via updates, which are finally set to end early next year.
#47 - A forgotten racing franchise spin-off which regularly makes my yearly list, and probably mine only.
#46 - Its main theme (the title screen music, that is) was just referenced in a very recently released movie trailer.

49. Metal Gear? Castlevania Rondo of Blood?

48. Shovel Knight?

Both are correct... well, two out of three that is. Kinda pointless to ask you to random guess between the two #49 games you mentioned, so I guess I'll just consider that a correct guess. It's Rondo of Blood, by the way.

My #50 is BOTW. It's the only Zelda game in my top 150. Further, it's the only one I've ever really enjoyed. A grand adventure, by no means perfect, but definitely great.

I don't know if I can hint at my next few without giving them away, but I'll give it a give it a go
46th Catch monsters, with a side trip to the shadow realm
47th The best selling PC game of all-time goes portable for the first time
48th The child of XCOM and chess
49th Fictional Europe military Strategy RPG

#46 Pokemon Platinum?
#49 Valkyria Chronicles?

#47: Minecraft?

#48: BattleChess?

#49: Valkyria Chronicles? - whichever entry I cannot guess

Pokemon Platinum and Valkyria Chronicles (the first entry made my list) are both spot on!

I'd never heard of BattleChess before, but it looks really cool, I'll check it out. Thanks for mentioning it :D

This is the first year I've participated and I struggled to narrow down my list. Pretty confident about parts of it but I had a "short" list of over 100 games and I found it very hard choosing one game over another sometimes, especially when they came from different genres. Anyway, I'll put a few hints for my first five games and then go to bed.

50. Giant slaying wanderer in a cursed land - Shadow of the Colossus, guessed by The_Liquid_Laser
49. Ready, lady gunner, spread your wings and save this dusty world- Wild Arms 3
48. Part 2 of a series that took a break before part 3, maybe we'll never see the sun rise on part 4. - Golden Sun : The Lost Age
47. The journey of a cursed king - Dragon Quest VIII : Journey of the Cursed King, guessed by The_Liquid_Laser
46. In this third instalment, one born of a dragon, saves the world with help from a sentient onion and friends - Breath of Fire III

Valkyria Chronicles (4 to be precise) is correct. But Paradroid has not six degrees of freedom. That reminds me though, do you know FreedroidRPG, which kinda merges Paradroid and Diablo?

Ok I'm finishing up the "didn't quite make it" list with posting games 51 - 70.  A few of these games didn't make the top 50, because they were too similar to games that actually did make the top 50.  I.e. these are awesome games, but I didn't want them to get 2 spots on my top 50.

70. Shinobi (arcade) - There are a lot of great Shinobi games out there, but my favorite is still the original arcade game.  Every Shinobi game I've ever played is also hard as hell.  I guess that is how the Japanese like their ninja games.
69. Diablo (PC) - I really enjoyed this game for many hours, but then one fateful day it became the first game that I ever played on the internet.  Every gamer old enough to remember what it was like to play before the internet also remembers their first internet game.  This game is special to me for that reason alone, but it also happens to be really fun on top of that.
68. Super Mario World (SNES) - I bought the SNES on launch day, and this game did not disappoint.
67. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - My favorite Mario Kart is the one on the Wii.  I feel like Mario Kart really needs motion controls, but the mechanics also feel better on this game than Mario Kart 8.  This game is still the best one to me.
66. Final Fantasy 4 (SNES) - Final Fantasy 1 was one of my favorite NES games as a kid, but when I first played this game on the SNES it totally melted my face.  I was not prepared how much of an upgrade it was in story compared to the NES game.  Mind blowing.

65.  Castle Crashers (PS3) - I love co-op beat em ups and this is the main one my family likes to play together.  So much fun.
64.  FTL (PC) - Feels like being the captain of a starship.  Really a unique experience, and also super fun at the same time.
63. Axiom Verge (Switch) - I played this game for the first time this year.  I was surprised that I liked it more than most of the Metroid games I've played.  Old school in all the best ways.
62.  Plants vs. Zombies (PS3/PC) - I love tower defense, and this is just such a well polished experience in every way.  I found this game to not be very challenging and yet I just couldn't put it down.  Still not sure why that is.  This game has an X-Factor that I just can't explain.
61.  We Love Katamari (PS2) - The sequel to one of the greatest PS2 games ever made.  The first game leaves you wanting more and this picks up the torch and runs with it.

60.  Ico (PS2) - This sleeper hit blew me away.  Also the mechanic of leading the girl by the hand creates an intimacy between the characters that I still haven't seen in any other game.
59.  Kingdom Hearts 2 (PS2) - Even if the story doesn't really make sense, that doesn't stop this from being one of the best games I've ever played.
58.  Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 (PC) - This is another game that is there to satisfy the addiction created by the amazing first game.
57.  Civilization (PC) - I never really wanted a PC for gaming until I saw a few friends obsessively playing this game.  Then I realized I needed a PC too.  ("It's for schoolwork dad.")
56.  Gauntlet (Arcade) - This is a co-op shoot 'em up.  But I really love fantasy co-op beat 'em ups and this really has this same great feel.  It became my favorite arcade game when I first played it.

55.  Rock Band 2 (PS3) - More Rock Band goodness.  Can't complain about that.  Whenever my siblings would come over for Christmas they would always ask to play this game.
54.  Dark Souls 2 (PS3) - A game to satisfy the deep "Souls" cravings created by Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1.
53.  Advance Wars: Dual Strike (DS) - Their really aren't enough Advance Wars games in the world.  This entry is one of the best.
52.  Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (PC) - When this game came out I feel like most of the other PC developers said, "We'll never make a fantasy strategy game this good.  We should all just give up."  I am not aware of a game since that is anywhere near as good as this one.
51.  Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich (PC) - One of the best PC games ever made came out with this sequel to pay homage to the Golden Age of comic books.

Heh, I've never actually played Paradroid, so that was a wild guess.  It's on my my long list of games that I'd like to try some day, but just haven't gotten around too yet.  Maybe I'll have to try FreedroidRPG first instead.  Either way, the games sound interesting, but I don't have experience with them yet.

Two out of three, Shadow of the Colossus and Dragon Quest 8 are correct. I can see why you guessed Kingdom Hearts 2 but the gap between entries wasn't quite as long as that.

Funny enough, after the fall of the wall (I'm from eastern germany) my father decided he needed a computer. For work was probably the excuse and he paid it through his work. But he played a lot of Civilization on it, really a lot. I also played Civilization, but also LucasArts adventures, UFO, Doom, Descent and other stuff.
