Well when your leaders are willing to stagnate the economy and piss off the people by putting them even deeper in debt, by paying exorbitant amounts to have renewable energy installed as fast as possible no matter the cost, all while giving away billions to other countries to help them do the same, ya, it's pretty sad. Then on top of it, when hydro rates go through the roof because of it, they tell you that's just the cost of 'saving the world'. (We actually grew a spine for a second and complained enough that they gave decent discounts for now, but it really is just pushing back the price hike until after the next election, just by chance).

As socialist and Canada can be, it's the opposite in terms of capitalism in some ways actually. Especially when it comes to communications. The few big corporations call the shots and do whatever they can to stop the smaller guys, and they mostly get away with it. This also leaves a bad taste in people's mouths and they don't bother trying to get into these types of businesses, because it will just be an uphill battle with giants constantly throwing rocks down at you every step you try to take up the hill. Canadians also don't complain often, other than about the weather, and when we do complain, they throw you the bone when you asked for your fair share of the steak, and we happily accept it.

What makes no sense is instead of charging considerably more for the faster and more reliable infrastructure being installed, and using that to offset the cost of laying kms of line for only a handful of homes, or installing worthy high speed wireless towers, they offer the new systems for even cheaper with higher caps. The fiber nearby has a min buy in of 40mbps down and 5.0mbps up, for $50 a month, with a 500GB data cap, or $60 a month for unlimited. The faster the plan you purchase, the better the deal you get, by a lot. Next plan step is 100mbps down and 10mbps up, for $65 a month, 500GB data cap, or $75 a month for unlimited. A lot of people in the rural area's are locked into wireless internet around here, which is typically around 2.0mbps down and 0.5mbps up for $60 a month, unlimited. Some are stuck with satellite, and pay around $80 a month for 20mbps down and 1mbps up, with a 250GB data cap, but it varies a lot and anytime near peak period, it usually hovers around 5.0mbps down.

Canada needs new government and quickly. Fall 2019 that should happen.

Economies of scale and profit margins won't lie. They will put more money where they will win it, doesn't matter how off or worse is in other areas of the region.

Yes but that's part of the problem is what I'm saying. For example, when much of the food industry offers high quality product to everyone equally, for a similar price, or everyone is taxed and that money fairly equally put towards everyone's high quality healthcare, when the internet is offered willy nilly it makes no sense. It should either be as equal as possible across the board, or free markets. Either that or regions should be able to have the power to make most of their own decisions and not rely on the Federal Government. Sure you can vote for a new Federal leader but to expect them to cover what's important in every smaller region is naive. Each region should be given funds to do what they wish, other than when it comes to large matters like a massive region spanning highway or something like that.

I'd prefer free markets btw but that's just me.

But haven't they already addressed that as you can download most of the game before it launches? I know they do that with some games, but it'd be easy to have all publishers do that.

That’s only a solution for people pre-ordering...what about the people buying the games normally? Would you like to wait a few days before you’re able to play your new game?

You still wouldn't have to. If all games were digital it would be up to the company of that region to decide when access to start downloading began. Hey could let every game you want download 99% of the way and block access to when the game is purchased. It doesn't HAVE TO only be for preorders. Nintendo America can keep it till the day of, Nintendo Korea could let downloading begin a month before.

Free market is the only sensible solution =]

But yes, while it is mandated/coordinated by central power it should be without privileges, every action should as equally as possible benefits all and priorities should be on not leaving the bottom to far off from the middle.

I think by the end of next gen it wont look good for physical media :(

I always buy physical as digital has no collector's value however internet speeds across the world are still not up to the standard needed for fast downloads of ever increasing in size games. As long as that is the case there has to be physical media present.

You say that and look at PC games, when was the last time you went into a video game store and purchased a PC game where it was on disk and not a steam key... I used to shop in EB years ago and it was wall to wall Pc standalone... not been like that for 10 years. Internet speeds don't matter the much when it comes to pre-order downloads/download in advance, the problem for some users is download limits rather than speed.

You have a point there on the PC scene but I have never been a PC gamer so I wouldn't know.  All I know is that I love the feeling of holding a physical copy and keeping it for collecting purposes especially JRPGs. Also my 20 meg internet is not a fun way to download PS4 titles. Even updated take long.

Oh I'm totally with you on holding a disk over digital. I'm even resorting to ordering a couple of titles from USA amazon because they only did they digital over here :(

I love collecting games (maybe too much lol).

I have 70+mb internet but I still dont want to buy a digital game and then download it, just feels wrong to me, I am old school on that, just a shame the boxes arnt as fun as they used to be.

I mean for movies and music I've changed my mind a bit, over the years I had purchased many a dvd/music cd.... I've converted dvd movies to Plex, and music I'll only get it from amazon and it's mp3 playable on any device. Still buy blu-rays though. So yeah movies/music dont hold that value in terms of boxes, but for games Im still 100% behind boxed copies. I dont mind buying old games from GOG... moved away from steam services (again non drm)

Microsoft and Sony need to have a SKU without the disc drive.

Agreed ...and yeah instruction booklets and decent packaging are a thing of the past for the most part. BotW the 59.99 version has no booklet just the pedestrian switch plastic case and the game card....gone are the days of the golden cartridges and color booklets with character and story descriptions ...oh I miss the 90s

don't think physical copies will disappear, i believe we could see another increase i digital download, but alongside with physical copies
