Yeah, I never learn. I answer each post right away, before going on to read more posts in the thread. I try to better myself.

Well other than Resident Evil 4, but even that started life as a Gamecube Exclusive. xD

Yeah, difficult to take this site seriously sometimes due to the users. I mean there's literally some dude on here that made an entire top 50 with nothing but Nintendo games. So what? Should I do that with Sony exclusive games, for example??? I mean, that just seems ridiculous...

It's Rol. I doubt his vote alone does much to sway the result. But the method gathering points is helping Nintendo games. See next answer for the explanation.

In all fairness, Nintendo invest high in polishing their games and has a focus on lasting fun instead of graphics or stuff that fades over time. That's why older games hold up well in the personal best of the gamers. I myself was a PC gamer, so I have not much Nintendo nostalgia. But in these few years of me playing on console Nintendo already had some games which caught my heart. If more other companies have the same level of polish and focus, the list would look different. but they mostly manage it for a time or even for a game or a series (means it mostly is bound to some persons overseeing the games). That's why this level of Nintendo dominance is understable, although still a pity. because if more companies would make games with that focus, we just would've a lot more great games.

There are plenty of games that are objectively as good as Nintendo games though, that stand the test of time. The issue is "plenty", the votes will be far more spread out depending on user and company preference while Nintendo fans can just vote only Nintendo.

It's not just the Nintendo fans. I started out as a PC gamer and my last years list has Fire Emblem Awakening as first Nintendo game on four and overall 13 Nintendo titles. But my first titles all ended up on much lower places. That's because the method of counting points is helping Nintendo up in the final charts. See, a game often mentioned in different lists, even on lower places is gaining more than a game named a few times but really high up. So a game to be successful here must be of good enough quality to enter the TOP 50 (and Nintendo has a constant good quality to ensure that) and enough exposure to be known by many (and that is also true for Nintendo). If we look at other titles, then the names with big exposure like Farcry, Battlefield, Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, FIFA and so on are usually deemed of less than good quality and seldom are named in the TOP 50. Even if they do, they usually have so much different games in the series, that votes are spread over different titles with each ending up on mediocre numbers. On the other hands the titles we deem great (for me Heroes of Might and Magic III) are usually known by fewer people and therefore getting once or twice high points, but overall not that much. So it is not the Nintendo fans causing this problem, it is the method of counting and the unique way Nintendo works in the industry. Dunno how to fix it, maybe titles high up in personal tops should gain much more points.

I have mine in a database from last year. To sort my list I wrote myself a little program, which asked if I prefer game A or game B and with many of these comparisons ordered them into a list. I add the new games I played and use that again.
By the way, I hope you are again at the guessing thread and guess my games that are from the last century. The more current games are guessed fine by other members too, but not the old ones.

That program sounds like a good idea, I'm finding it hard getting my list down to 50 and then sorting it all.
|
Yeah, it is helpful. My program is not really user-friendly, it is command-line (text) and you have to compile yourself. That's OK for me, but probably not usable for non-programmers. I thought last year I should make it into a website for others to use, but then I'm a lazy bastard, so I didn't.

Yeah, I plan on posting in the guessing thread again. I especially like seeing the lists from people who have been gaming a long time and include 8/16-bit games or old PC games. These are the greatest games of all time after all. They can't all be from the 21st century.

Oh yeah, that was fun. I'll see if I get my TOP to differ a bit from last year, to keep it fresh.
