I hope that's a rhetorical question.

I like everything you just said, thumbs up. For the original reply, It does not make me any less Canadian to want bad, anti freedom, sexist, and racist people dead. I'm Albertan after all (Basically the south, but in the north). The government can't just bark and then not bite. The women of the middle east really need something more than just words on twitter. The world doesn't respect or take Canada as serious as they once have or like they do for Trump's USA. The government has to SHOW the world we're serious, not expect the world to take us serious. |
On the bolded: No, we aren't. No matter how much you may wish us to be otherwise, Alberta is still more progressive than most of the United States overall, and in particular, the American south.
On the rest: This isn't just Canada poking Saudi Arabia about the women of the middle east. This is Canada standing up for a Canadian citizen who has been detained by Saudi Arabia for the crime of being a woman with an opinion. You can be quite certain consular and government officials have been involved in this case doing far more than just sending tweets.

Yeah, I was scratching my head about that one as well.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
Anyway, looking at the gigantic anti-Canada stuff from Saudi Arabia, looks like you guys hit a nerve by questioning their human rights.
For a country that doesn't actually exist, you guys are good at melting the snowflake tyrants of the desert =P
Anyway, you guys aren't in any danger, the Saudis are getting their asses kicked by a bunch of teenagers in Yemen. Just send in your armed forces and I am SURE they'll surrender to him.

Saudi Arabia is a country that formed in the 20th century after conquering the land from the Hashemites (The same dynasty that rules Jordan). They're tyrants.
But the thinking of the US and their allies is thinking is something like this:
Man 1: "Let's investigate these September 11th attacks."
Man 2: "OMG! The attackers were from Saudi Arabia!"
Man 2: "What does this mean? Should we investigate the Saudis?"
Man 1: "NO! We go to war on terror!"
Man 2: "Where is terror?"
Man 1: "NOT SAUDI ARABIA, but lets bomb the hell out of Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Afghanistan, Yemen, and attack Pakistan until children become afraid of the sky."
Man 2: "Look, the Shia people are helping fight against the ISIS and Al Qaeda."
Man 1: "HAHA, SHIA FOOLS, BOMB THEM!!!"
Man 2: "But those guys are helping to kill the terrorists."
Man 1: "DO AS I SAY, BOMB THEM!"
Man 2: "How will we deal with Saudi Arabia?"
Man 1: "Our forces have been ineffective in finding the terrorist group, in order to dig up the funders, we should give the House of Saud WEAPONS!"
Man 2: "How much money worth of weapons?"
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
It looks like bearded donkeys possess a vis comica we never expected.
It is interesting to look at the role of the United States in all of this. For a while, the US has been a bit of a thorn, outwardly criticizing the human rights record of Saudi Arabia. While our record in that regard has been far from perfect, there has always been an insistence that international human rights were something important to the US. Then Trump steps into the picture and human rights isn't really something he cares about (at least in his allies. He only really cares when he can use it against someone like with Iran). So, the US falls silent.
This gives Saudi Arabia a window to make a statement. "We will deal with our own affairs, and if you step in, you are making enemies of us," more or less.
Basically, Saudi Arabia can't afford to lose the US, but it can afford to lose Canada, so by the US falling silent on human rights issues gives them a window to make a statement to try to shake off Western influence. By remaining out of this fight, the United States is stepping out of moral driven foreign policy and focusing almost exclusively on economic and military driven foreign policy. This is an interesting change which could be painted as good or bad depending on where you stand. To adapt an old adage: Human rights, economic prosperity, and peace. Choose Two.
That said, it is a fairly clear extension of something I have been saying for a while: President Trump lacks a moral platform. I think that as an overall point has some deep and serious international and domestic implications, and this is only really a small corner of it.

So if I decide to go for a hiking trip throughout SA and end up stranded in the desert, hanging on for dear life, Canada will have no problem bashing the SA Gov because they aloud this to happen?
You think when I'm asked why I went for a hiking trip alone in the desert in SA, and I respond with, 'because I am Canadian, which makes me special, so I figured I could just go anywhere and do anything and assumed everything would work out just fine', would be an acceptable excuse?
If this Canadian citizen went there protesting, then they obviously knew the details and what could happen, so they now need to deal with the consequences, just like I would for being such a moron. This would be like walking up to a black person and calling them the 'N' word to their face, and then completely blaming them for knocking out your teeth.

Oil. That's the reason why no one calls out Saudi Arabia on their bullshit.
