It's a design choice, so I can't fault the developers for their own intentions. I like the whimsical nature of their outfits, but for people who don't...well I'd hope something like this isn't a game-breaker, but that choice really lies with the consumer.

Do the outfits make sense? No, but I don't really like to view everything in a realistic light anyway. The story and setting are surreal enough that a girl wearing an impractical outfit is probably somewhere between "I don't care" and "Who gives a crap" in my list of things to complain about.

To be fair, I don't think the problem, at least for me, is the sexualization.

It just looks fucking stupid.  And it doesn't fit the character.

I mean, figure skaters do tend to wear some pretty outlandish costumes. I think the design actually makes a pretty good deal of sense for a figure skating ice character.

I think it bothered me at first when I first started seeing this stuff as JRPGs made their way to the UK in the late 90s and early 2000s but I'm just used to it by now, just like the same old humour and other cliches that come with these anime rpgs.

Now I'm just like,"Oh look, the barely clothed 12 year old is being hit on by the 35 year old womanizing alcoholic while the 23 year old woman worries that her cooking is f#cking terrible and she's way past her prime and this is just 85 seconds after the 16 year old protagonist has either just realised he has to finish the job his dad couldn't do properly or he just discovered that he's going to have to kill his father (biological or otherwise), oh Japan you!"

That being said, I would probably prefer it not be there.

The whole game feels too...anime. Especially with the most recent info.

And that's not a bad thing inherently (I've watch some anime that are really good), but it seems to use so many anime jokes and stereotypes: the video of the Nopon with his blade, the end of GameXplain gameplay video and the direct story trailer itself...there had to be classic smart villain with the glasses...ugh

I'm still going to get the game because the gameplay looks superb and a step forward for the series. But this doesn't look like a story I will enjoy, especially with it's emphasis on the love part...

Nintendo and PC gamer

Its the kind of detail that wouldn't lower my hype at all, but you have a point, I don't get why japanese has this constant obssesions with oversexualizing young females in the most ridiculous possible way, Pyra outfit is highly unnecessary. Still the game looks amazing.

Of course that's all you can say. 'Hurr durr DAE SJW'S xd'

Never realized pointing out unneccessary partial nudity in a game makes me a SJW. Not as if I stated that I have no issue with sexualization - rather, the I simply thought the game took the fanservice to a whole new level.

Instead of running around and whining about SJW's, perhaps you should realize that literally no one who has commented as of now (including the conservatives) has mentioned politics. I'd like to keep it like that.

Not directing this at OT as he has a point and thread is valid but to your point yeah, thers has been an uptick in scoial justice and white knighting as of late. Kinda guessing its partly from that gaf site and partly users here who seem to want to make it seem like its from the gaf site. Either way, let them be and live on there saf espace sith all the unicorn and rainbows.

Not gonna agree or disagree. Just gonna say that I don't want the conversation to shift to this topic at all. No one even brought it up, and the discussion has actually been fine.

If he wants to whine about SJW's (which has no fucking relevance and is one of the most abused political terms in today's world), then he can make a new thread. Pointing out fanservice and how it is unnecessary and makes characters one dimensional is not a SJW or political issue in any manner.

Eh.....are people reducing the quality of the complete game, because of one or some character designs? Judging a book by its cover, huh?

I'm certainly not a fan of echi stuff and fanservices, but this is pretty much harmless.

I don't think anyone was making statements on the quality of the the whole game based on the designs, but it is an aspect that bugs some, including me.

It's possible to criticize a certain aspect of a game and still like the game overall.

There's a simple fix too, let us change the blades outfits. Everyone gets what they want. People that want overt sexualization can have it and for people that are annoyed by it for whatever reason can avoid it. Everyone gets to play the way they prefer to play.

depends on context and situation. I don't really think Xenoblade 2 appears THAT sexualized though. So PYRA is in an exposing outfit and the little animal sidecharacter is caught using his robot for sex a bit. Not the end of the world

There are other scenario's where it annoys me though. Usually more often in like torture porn (certain horror) films and some TV where it just totally distracts from the story and kills immersion.

Very rarely does it kill it for me in games though

It doesn´t bother me at all. It´s just like anime.
