Then nowadays, my local eb games stores (I'm in Perth) have multiple walls of ps and Xbox products that span the entire shop, whilst Nintendo quite literally has a section I'd say 2 metres in width. Could be just how they set up their shop, but obviously it at least somewhat reflects what the customers are buying the most.

Anecdotally, my friends all own PS4/Xbox one. Though unlike NZ, there seems to be a fairly even split between those two... I know this is entirely anecdotal and that real data may prove me entirely wrong but at least for this current generation, Nintendo seems rather week in Aus, a far cry from the Wii/ds days.

if I've just been ignorant and there are actual sales of the switch/Wiiu/3ds vs PS4/xb1 in Australia I would love to see them, but I haven't been able to easily find any yet.

The store design doesn't represents the customers habits, but who's paying more for shelf space. Sales will eventually impact the visual presence in store, but it will always come to who gives the biggest check

Didn't know that, thanks for clearing it up! I wonder if Nintendo has a more equal visual presence in the US?

Their sales are forcing the hands of retailers, it's still not at the same level as the other two, but it's growing.

is there any reason switch does so poorly in europe...? its only barely outselling the 3ds :(

VGC estimates are based on known data points, Switch barely has had any so far for Europe. As opposed to Japan where there is new data each week and the USA where monthly data is a thing.

European software charts from GfK usually show Switch games in the top 10 for the week/month (GfK has no universal format for all European countries), so there's no reason to think that Switch is doing poorly in Europe. Proportionally, it's doing worse in Europe than in America and Japan, but there are no worrying signs. Proportionally across Europe itself, the UK has a lower presence of Switch software, but that's the result of Xbox One being a factor there as opposed to mainland Europe where Microsoft is stuck in the mud.

Long story short, VGC estimates can't be trusted equally across all regions, so there shouldn't be too much read into them.

Yeah, I've heard VGC isn't that reliable but it makes a lot of sense that Europe would be less reliable with no media create or NPD to base results on.

Amazes me how some still think Switch will end up outselling PS4 given how completely average their EU numbers are

That's quite premature considering how Switch has a considerable lead over DS and 3DS in the same time-frame despite costing €120 more than DS and €70 more than 3DS.

Probably because the PS4 doesn't have the potential to sell 25-30 million in Japan.

Also Switch still has this potential unknown with China on it's side, leading to increased speculation on sales.

(Not that I think the Switch will outsell the PS4)

Switch is €330, DS was €150 and 3DS €250.

Switch is €330? I thought it was €300. And I also thought that 3DS was either €220 or €230, depending on the retailer. Were those the prices in Austria?

In any case, I was using an inflation calculator. With those numbers, Switch is €150 more expensive than DS and €65 more expensive than pre-pricecut 3DS.

I do like how a handheld is still doing very well!

Pocky Lover Boy!

According to VGC numbers as of 26th August Switch has sold more units in Europe than Japan !

Neither has the Switch any chance to sell 40-50 million units in Europe. I also doubt that the Switch will do great in China since the Chinese console market is kind of meh these days.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
