So, everyone was calli g doomed for the swith before launched. Now, suddenly, everybody knew it would do great.....

Seeing some of the excuses people are using though... so much fun :)

This site didn't have that many people calling it doomed. A few loud users, but not too many.

Gaf though... http://neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1333545&page=1

I like how it went from  "Improvement from GC/WiiU" to "Wii style hit".

It is just how people act on this site. I for the one will admit it is doing better than expected, and I am fan of the company.

It is doing far better than expected. Not even nintendo planned for this.... that's why they can't meet demand. Is a Wii-like situation all over again

It can't be like Wii. Wii was an outlier. Nintendo home consoles are in permanent decline and smartphones have killed Nintendo's handhelds. They'll be going third party any day now.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

You are forgeting that iPhone had those prices even before 3DS launch, and 3DS didnt sell at $250 in any case.

Maybe for Sony/MS, Nintendo has very difrent price point and I was talking about Nintendo home consoles, GC launched at $200, Wii and $250 and Wii U at $300. Not only that, but Switch has price point of games of home consoles.

You think it's both, home console and handheld. Actually it's maybe it is surprised that is selling so much especially with huge stock issues with price point of $300, 3DS needs huge price point to start selling in Japan.

Have you adjusted for inflation because $300 today isn't $300 back when previous Nintendo consoles launched.  Back in 2007 Switch would cost around $250 so I'm glad we've debunked this myth.

Back in 2000 the switch would of cost just over $20 and in 1990 just over $150!

So by today's standards $300 really ain't much especially when you're talking a powerful handheld which the likes of 3DS, DS,  GB etc weren't powerful when they launched.

It doesn't really matter, if you compare prices of Nintendo console compared to MS/Sony console fromt that time you will see that Nintendo were always much less cheaper in any case.

$300 is price of PS4 (most strongest and most popular console on market), so yes, $300 would definitely high for only handheld device.

So many numbers.

Japan love their Pokemon and Mario's that's for sure

Yet neither of them have been released yet. I can only imagine sales explotion once they're out.

Were there people on this site expecting the home console PS4 to outsell the handheld Switch in Japan on this site? I would say 90% of the people here before the Switch launched would pick the handheld to sell more in Japan

Depends on your regional breakdown.

Hindsight is 20/20, so now in September the general consensus is that it was obvious that Switch would do well. But looking back at the actual predictions, the general consensus was that it wasn't obvious.

Agreed, even I put a low number, people acting like the majority opinion that it would be as sucessful as it is are kidding themselves, or are playing defensive now that it is dominating when it shouldn't have been in their mind.

I think it is a mix of both, namely since I know the usual suspect, and I know how they were posting in January.

I still think you are too optimistic role, but I will agree that it will do better than 50 million at this rate.

Japan is the Switch cornerstone, one needs not worry about its sales elsewhere, which are much higher than I expected them to be during its first year, thankfully.

Almost everybody gets their iPhones and such for free on contract deals, often the upfront cost is like 100 quid or so if the contract requires any at all, no one is really paying 700-800 quid upfront.

You're right that most people don't buy their phone upfront (and that does significantly change how the purchase is perceived, so i'm not sure why Ketotan chose it as an example), but the phone isn't 'free on contract deals', the price is just included in your monthly bill. It often actually ends up cost you more, depending on the contract.

Which is why I said on contract deals.
