Didn't watch the fight due to the ridiculously high price of $100, but I just watched a highlight video and I have to say Connor didn't fight smart from what I saw. All of the experts were saying that he needed to save his energy as much as possible, hang back and look for openings to throw body shots with his longer reach, which would pay dividends later in the fight by sapping Mayweather's stamina. Instead he came out much too aggressive, throwing combos at Mayweather's head, hoping to get a lucky knockout I guess, but Mayweather is a very defensive fighter and blocked all of the significant shots, so all Connor did with that strategy was tire himself out much too early. Meanwhile Mayweather was smart and just defended those early rounds, which saved plenty of energy for those later rounds where he just dominated Connor.
Ultimately I'm not surprised by the outcome, I said yesterday that Mayweather would likely win and I was right. Freddie Roach said it would take 3 years of training for Connor to beat Mayweather, but he only had about a year and a few months of training. To make matters worse, he didn't train with Freddie, instead he opted to train with his MMA striking coaches. His inexperience as a boxer shown through with his overly aggressive strategy.
