Forums - Nintendo - Destructoid: Breaking down why Breath of the Wild is highly overrated

Lol Destructoid please. IMO the game is pretty underrated

The opinion of one person does not concern me, I'll probably buy BOTW and love it.

Edit: or the opinion of anyone else for that matter.

Well, it certaibly can't be the GOAT because that's Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time, but it might be close.

Just stating facts.

The article is a fun read because it's such a mess. Here's a synopsis for those who don't have 30 minutes:

I don't have to convince anyone that Breath of the Wild is a bad game, because it's not. It is soulless, is about wandering around aimlessly and pretty much everything about it sucks. Breath of the Wild is a good game.

It cracks me up.

But from a serious angle, the article is also good for a psychological analysis.

Ah, now that's more like it. I'm sorry I ever doubted you.

Meh, I tried reading it. Most of the complaints are complete non issues to me. Less story means more gameplay, and that's always a positive to me. Not like Zelda stories were even that good before.
My favorite part is how "BotW has no charm, character or that 'Zelda magic' ". Beautiful.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

"dey took muh NPCs and muh stories"

Haha. Get used to it.

"There is never a moment of "I need to comeback here later" which sounds convenient but it takes away from the sense of progression and getting stronger that this game and its fans claim it has."

I don't think I played the same game as this guy.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

After this phrase I just could no longer take him seriously;

"It will sweep despite superior games like Persona 5, Little Nightmares, and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on the market."

I'll give you Persona 5 as being a close-ish contender, but on a critical level you just threw what ever merit you had with the last two on thinking they're anywhere close to the same level as Zelda Botw is, nevermind being "superior"!

I mean seriously, PUBG?! It's insanely popular and a brilliantly fun game and all, but on a critical stand point??? The game isn't even complete! It's time and development costs are nowhere on the same level. Zelda Botw was made by some of the most talented game developers who have ever lived, and your saying some half finished early access game is a superior title than Zelda Botw?!

Well they were probably saving this for when their site wasn't getting enough clicks.

Pretty much.

Reminds me of all the articles from the Verge about the switch. Once it did well, they prepared their slightly positive switch articles

Why did I even read the whole article and try to critique it fairly....

Dude, I can't remember the last I was so hooked to a game as I am to BotW! The game is not perfect, I know, but almost 5 months after release I can't stop playing it. I think the last time I played a game this much was when I used play CoD online, but I don't think a single player game has ever captivated me the way BotW did.
