Forums - Sales - UK Charts: Splatoon 2 Remains At Number Two

Wow. Why does the UK hate Nintendo so much?

It's not a European thing, since the UK is their worst major market there.
It's not an English thing, since Nintendo does significantly better in North America and Australia.

So why do the British have such different tastes from any of the countries with similar demographics?

The Switch is very expensive in Europe (like $50 more expensive than the rest of the World?), combined with shortages. And coming from Wii U and 3DS, which sold miniscule amounts in the UK... It'll be an uphill battle to regain marketshare there for Nintendo.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Even for Europe, the UK market has had a very chilly reception to the Switch.

Despite being a larger gaming market in absolute terms, the UK has only purchased 75% as many Switch units as Germany, and 66% as many as France. The Switch has done much worse in the UK in terms of both marketshare and as a proportion of the country's population.

So happy to see miitopia doing well. Crash and Splatoon 2 are also doing great.

Switch is sold out, how much better is it supposed to do?

Looking at VGC numbers, France and Germany are getting 8-10k/week whereas the UK rarely goes over 5.5k. Either France/Germany are being rewarded for their WiiU/3DS support or UK is being punished. Switch will turn things around. I don't see Germany selling more Switch than UK when all's said and done.

Well, it is probably more XBox-Land but XBox failed.

Wut, Xbox didn't fail in the UK. It is Xbox's second best just behind the USA.

What I mean is: the X360 was in many regards successful - worldwide. I just looked back, and many multiplatform games sold more copies on 360 than on PS3. The XBox One on the other hand is not as successful. It is majorly outsold by PS4 and multiplats sell a lot more on PS4. So, US and UK are still Microsofts best markets, but XBox overall is weaker than the 360 was. This has influence even on the stronger markets. That's what I meant.

That crash hold is nice! Very much deserved!

20k in its second week? Which is more than Splatoon's FW? How is that not well?

Was referring to first week, since that's the only one we have some idea of figures for (ie. more than Splatoon 1, but less than Crash).

Given the standard first week to second week drops it's probably fair to say it didn't do all that well 2nd week either...

Yeah Crash is legging it out, unlike Splatoon 2.

Suggesting Crash (-28%) Splatoon 2 (-56%).

Nice that Spla2n remained #2 instead of free-falling .

Great Crash hold.

Well to be fair to Splatoon, -56% for 2nd week is actually a pretty decent hold. Course, the 1st week wasn't too good to begin with, but still it's something.

Not sure I agree. -70-80% would be standard for high sales games or JRPGs. Lower sales games as you say have a much higher potential for legs.  Splatoon 2 follows Splatoon, which was quite a leggy game. For example in Japan Splatoon 100k+ start became quite the phenomenon.
