What's the unrealistic wishlist looking so far for the next Nintendo Direct ?

The next 3D Mario ? Next Monolith Soft Project ?
Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War remake ? Another new IP exclusively centered around mice mode ? F-Zero new game ?

C'mon let's try ourselves some wild guesses !

Nah honestly, I wouldn't expect more than a few 3rd party games showing for the last portion of the year, Kirby Planet Robobot "remakster", more on Tomodachi and Rhythm Heaven, first actual showing of Kirby Air Riders and a surprise or two ... Maybe. ?

I had completely forgotten about the Chinese market, but reading the source, it seems as if the situation is unimaginable.

What happens when you add Korea and Southeast Asia to this list?

According to e-commerce website JD, which is offering Nintendo Switch 2 parallel imports from Hong Kong, the console sold over 400,000 units as of June 4, 2025. This is an increase of 70,000 units from late May.

It’s important to keep in mind that 400,000 units is the floor and not the ceiling for Nintendo Switch 2 in China, as we do not have sales numbers from other mainland Chinese retailers that sell the Switch 2, as well as sales numbers from Hong Kong retailers that export the console to the mainland. This means that the total number of units sold in mainland China are likely to be far higher than 400,000.

When the Switch 2 is about to become one of the most competitive market alongside the NA, Europe and Japan ...

Thinking on it, that actually might be the factor that determines how it could actually maintain a faster pace than the OG Switch, at least in the initial years.

And all this time I was worried about the Switch 2 launch.

But there is stock in Holland!!!

Even if we get a look at the next 3D Mario soon, I really don't see it making it out this year even during the holiday season. It's not very common for Nintendo to release two 3D platformers in a year anymore, especially not 5 months or less apart.

3D Mario is probably coming out Q2-Q4 2026, though it could be as late as Q4 2027.

My boldest prediction is another new IP/standalone game.

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

Besides, Mario is being kept busy with Mario Kart World.

I'm ovulating thinking of getting it

It's not very common because Nintendo has never done it before. Not themselves, anyway.

Before Kirby finally made the jump with Forgotten Land, and even then, that was HAL Laboratory, not in-house, Mario was it. That was their ONLY 3D platformer in recent memory.

Before that, the last time, (the ONLY time) a Nintendo IP had a 3D platformer was Donkey Kong, and that was 1999, and that wasn't even Nintendo themselves, that was Rare. THEY were the ones releasing multiple 3D platformers in a year, not Nintendo.

This is the first time we have gotten a 3D platformer made by Nintendo themselves that's NOT Mario since... EVER!

Unless there's a game I'm just blanking on right now, I don't think we've ever had an in-house 3D platformer made by Nintendo that WASN'T a Mario game. This is the first time that has happened. Hell, it STILL hasn't happened if you want to get technical and consider Donkey Kong a Mario character rather than his own separate thing.

So, hey, first time for everything! Especially since we still don't know what their BIG holiday title for Switch 2's first holiday season is. Legends Z-A is in October, but that's not the same as a new mainline Pokemon gen and that's also gonna be on Switch 1. It COULD be Prime 4, but I just don't think Metroid is a big enough name or title to build Switch 2's first holiday season around. There's really no other game I can think of right now that can fill that role that's ready and due for a new entry, it HAS to be 3D Mario.
