Yes, but at this point it might be easier to just wait until Yule.

My plan is to go to my local electronics store on launch day and simply buy one directly.

But if pre-orders are sold out won't that mean none extra in stock?

Well he only said it was a plan, not a good plan.
One of the easier launches to pre order I found. Cancelled my order through GAME a few days back, one of the reasons being I was having doubts about GAMEs reliability. seriously, what company has their entire customer service through Twitter DMs 😅 and it took hrs between replies. Played around for about 30 minutes on Amazon today and managed to get a MKW bundle (didn’t see the standard bundle come back into stock at any point). Also got Cyberpunk 2077 on pre order (coz it’s still my favourite game in the last 20yrs) but the pro 2 controller I had to go with ShopTo, Amazon was shipping it out in November 😳

Judging by what I’ve seen as far as GameStop inventory from random people online, it seems like there were more of the bundle up for pre-order than the console by itself.

Which is good for people who want Mario Kart World.

I went in person preorder to my local store(one of the bigger ones in the province) and I can confirm that's also what they had.
The MKW bundle is the more available option seemingly for most retailers likely. Smart move by Nintendo cuz they'll rake their profits easier that way.
Anywoo, seeing the disastrous time most here had, it kinda feels funny that after a day of work. I just had to waltz in my local GameStop to get my pre-order done without hassle and no calls.
Though, there weren't any console only available without the MKW bundle here ... Dang it, I want to get it physical !
Btb, I also pre-ordered the new Pro controller.

Gamestop's website said they had preorders in store, and I figured it was probably bullshit. I called three stores and got no response, so I said fuck it and decided to take a trip. And I was able to preorder my Switch 2 and one for my little brother.
Tbh I wasn't even really super excited about it, but now that I actually have it preordered I'm so much more hyped.

No, not necessarily.
When I was at Best Buy (I was around for the launches of PS4/XBone/WiiU/3DS/Vita) we always had more units than we had preorders. Because, we wanted people in the store, and we REALLY wanted the kind of people who would wait in line for 6+ hours to buy a system to do that. Because those customers are the ones that are likely going to pick up a few games and accessories.
Honestly, I think stores would much rather not sell video game systems online, but it's just a matter of not becoming obsolete.
