I guess your mileage may vary and maybe JRPG fans love this stuff, but for me, being forced to play annoying minigames at a tourist resort to win tickets to buy a swimsuit so I can go to the beach is not what I want out of an epic world-saving RPG adventure. The game just kept forcing me to play dumb minigames and wade through long sections of tedious filler, and I just don't have the patience for all that when my gaming time is limited and I have so many other countless games I could be playing instead. |
I feel you there. Nothing wrong feeling that way about any game really since it's your own time that you're spending there. There's definitely a case to be made that the brevity of some of these sections in the OG FF-VII served it's purpose better than the elongated version of the remakes. |
It's a shame too cos the core combat, music, graphics, etc are excellent, and when I was actually fighting enemies and progressing the story I was having a great time. I also really enjoyed the first game, FF7 Remake, as that didn't have nearly as much filler.
If part 3 can trim the fat, I'd definitely consider getting it, but Rebirth just wasn't for me, I like my steak without all the fat.
