Recent Switch sales make me question if Nintendo's production capacities even reach the 750k units per month that I expected. Either it's closer to 600k per month or they are putting units on the side to have a higher stream of consistent supply beginning with the launch of Splatoon 2.

At the current sales rate, it doesn't seem like Switch shipments will reach 5m by the end of June.

All numbers in this post apply to worldwide sales.

Why would you constrain supply now intentionally, only to deliver them a month later? It doesn't make sense to keep them in storage when they can sell them right now anyway, and get those users to spend money on software right away. And keeping stuff in storage also costs money.

Decent opening for arms. Switch stock supply disappoints though.

Ps4 up from 19k to 24k post MHW announcement. Coincidence?

YS8, minecraft vita and ps4, gta V and Nier all displaying excellent legs.

I was going to ask about the PS4 hw bump

Does the E3 affect japanese sales? If so, that's a good sign for Monster Hunter World

Not usually but monster hunter is huge in Japan. It will move ps4 hardware for sure.  A great asset in ps4's battle vs the ps3.

I'm a little worried at this point as well. Doesn't seem like they are shipping more than 150k WW per week. At this rate, the Switch will be continuously outsold by consoles with far less demand.

If they can't move 6-7 million before Odyssey comes out they are really killing off sales that should have been a lock, not to mention eliminating absolutely all impulse buys.

It's rather worrying. I'm beginning to be emotionally invested in their supply problem . Pains me to see them struggle so much, but then Wii was supply constrained for a long period of time (until 2008 in my country) and it sold a lot. Let's cross fingers they work that out!

Right now it's not components that are holding them back, but the contracts they signed last year. Volume of production can't be increased on the fly. Sony wasn't able to react to stronger than expected PS4 Pro demand either, that's why supply has gotten better only recently. Nintendo prepared for increased in production in late January and it takes several months until that can take effect.

It makes sense, thanks for the info, Rol. It's not really their fault, the demand has been a great surprise. *Nintendo whiping tears with cash*

I would like to know which component is holding them back. I don't think it's the Tegra, Nvidia planned them to be used on all mobile devices but basically only Switch uses it. I'm leaning to think it's either the screen (JDI makes it) or the flash memory (competing with all smart devices for some chips).

But a component shortage is absolutely holding them back. They're unable to request more because there isn't enough to go around, and they'd be outbid on any surplus supply that did exist. If NAND was easier to find, they'd be able to increase production at a much higher rate.

I understand what you're trying to say about contracted amounts they agreed upon to receive; however if there wasn't a shortage, they'd be able to purchase more.

Yeah the Switch is going to tear up Japan in the long run, 20 million sales there at least.

Decent opening for ARMS.

As for Zelda, if digital sales could be taken into account, I'd say that around the 750k range (NS + Wii U versions)

Exactly.  Most of the time, the big 3 don't order mountains of components and stuff the channels, that can blow up in your face (see Wii U in 2012-2013 and Xbone in 2014).  They order what they think they will need and then renegotiate higher volumes as needed.  Nintendo did that but was met with the unexpected issue of being unable to effectively renegotiate higher volume.

Arms looks so bad. This weird (in a very bad way) game will never be played on my Switch. Gimme Punch Out Nintendo. Now!!!!

Have you tried the Testpunch? I'm really having tons of fun. If you haven't tried it, give ir a chance ;)

I am a very bitter gamer sometimes. Lol. I guess I should give it a chance.

I predicted around 75k first week for Arms, so I'm more than happy with 100k. Now its just a matter of whether Arms has legs... AY OH. I'm the first person to ever make that joke, right?
