Forums - Nintendo - Prediction: Mario Kart 9 won't release until a decade or more after MK8

MK9 should borrow a lot from Diddy Kong Racing.

Bumping since this has now officially come true (made this prediction way back in 2017 when Deluxe launched)

They could probably just port MK8 to Switch successor and it will sell just fine.

Nice prediction OP.

I am still thinking MK8 ultimate edition or whatever will be on Switch successor.

Nah Mario Kart is way too valuable a system seller to waste like that. MK9 releasing next year or in 2026 would sell a lot of Switch 2's and help it get off to a strong start.

Mario Kart series is like call of duty but with actual quality updates.

Well done OP. 2025 is the absolute earliest Mario Kart will come out since there's virtually no chance now of it coming out December or sooner without an announcement by now.
If Nintendo has both 3D Mario and Mario Kart on launch day for Switch 2, it's Game.Set.Match. Even both in the first 6 months to a year will print money.
Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 released a month apart for 3DS in the end of 2011. They helped 3DS immensely when its first 6 months were rough.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

I was way off about Nintendo releasing a new F Zero on Switch though to fill the gap, womp womp

It definitely won't release this year, but they could do a cross Gen treatment and release extra content only for the successor

Old Switch related predictions are always entertaining to look back on.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Congrats on the prediction. Despite MK8 being so old, the 48 additional tracks added through the BCP help it feel fresh so many years later.
