A decade ago I wasn't sure Iron Man, Thor, or Captain America would be successful.  Now?  I'm not sure when they'll have a flop. Black Panther? Captain Marvel? Squirrel Girl?

Screw that, appeal to a different audience. NEW WARRIORS.

Justice and Firestar included, just lie about their origins.

Hmm, pie.

Aren't they doing a television series about the New Warriors?  Given how they'v ehandled ABC and Netflix characters I doubt they'll get big screen time now.

I think this is a weird point to make today, because it was true for the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, in fact it's why most people 3 years ago used to think it would be Marvel's first real flop.

Nowadays, it's quite the stretch to say the Guardians are anything else besides A list. They're pretty widely known and Marvel is making sure to keep that widespread knowledge going, what with the Telltale series, and the new cartoon, and all that kind of stuff. Baby Groot alone is going to keep this franchise relevant for a while, because kids.

Anyways, I've now watched the movie a whopping 6 times, beating out the 5-time record previously held by the first GotG (obviously I'm talking theater-only, as I've seen that movie countless times since the home media release)... and yes, I know I shouldn't be proud of this, but as long as it's making me happy, I don't care.

The big thing keeping the Guardians from A-List status is time.  If they maintain and become staples of birthday parties, toy aisles, and othe mediums (cartoons) then I'll say A-List.

I will give Marvel credit for getting the Avengers to A-List, but they had a long history of being B-List or borderline A-List in their 50 yeas.

Saw it last weekend and I was kind of disappointed. I felt there wasn't much happening and the action sequences (apart from the intro) kinda fell flat for me. Drax laughing like an idiot at everything got on my nerves and I thought Nebula went from hell bent on killing Gamora to being her BFF way too quickly.

On the plus side, there's Baby Groot who was awesome and shirtless Chris Pratt.

Signature goes here!

Well, respecting this, that was my take on the movie. Drax remained an issue throughout for me among most others.

I believe part of this has to do with Gunn's solo writing and directing as well when the original had  a co-writer for the script. The story revolving around the celestial Ego and the character deserved better treatment to make it more inspiring. Not to mention the overly reliant CGI turning non-judicious at several instances during the ultimate face-off between the central characters.

I can definitely agree that Ego didnt get enough development, screen time etc

But to be honest, you could say that about 90% of the villians in the MCU. They are all pretty forgetable and useless characters.

I saw Wonder Woman and oh boy the villain does leave a lasting impression on the viewers although the act needed more refining to it. It was one of the best DC comics origin movies since Batman Begins. MCU can take a thing or two from this.

So another weekend came and went, and Vol. 2 is now ahead of the original (both domestically, and in foreign markets), and who knows maybe on the way to $1b (I'm no expert on box office numbers but from my judgement it seems possible (edit: actually, maybe not. Foreign numbers seem to be dead in the water at this point)).

Domestic: $340,505,078
Foreign: $453,183,382
Worldwide: $793,688,460

So now that most people have seen it, and enough time has passed for people to dwell on it, I'm opening up the "1 vs. 2" poll... which shouldn't be a contest in my opinion (or that of anyone I know personally), but the internet seems to think otherwise, so it'll be interesting to see.

As for myself, well I watched it 8 times, and I don't care. This movie was pretty damn special to me in many ways. I still think I'll go see it a 9th time before I'm done with it - spending R$100 (US$30) on a single movie is surely a bit extreme, and my wallet isn't very happy about that, but I don't regret a thing.

China actually didn't do much for vol.2 and it's lurking around $100 M and might end up close to Dr. Strange numbers. It was reported earlier to be dropping off much higher than usual in the wake of other non-hollywood biggies releasing there. I can see it inching closer to BvS WW total, but this depends clearly on the domestic legs. It should end around $360-370 M at this rate and be settling for $ 850-880 M.  1 bn is out of the equation as some of early industry estimates have been proven wrong now. As more releases are on the way, (WW is going to be heavy competition with another new release.) It made most of its final dough from the memorial weekend.

I kind of was in the same club.   Baby Groot was the only USP for me in this movie. Go watch Wonder Woman, and I bet it'll not disappoint one bit even with minor flaws. It was pure entertainment.

Really liked the movie, though I'd probably rate it slightly below the first one. I think the character focused style was excellent, and gave them all much more depth than before. It actually made me care about the characters even more than I did before, something the DC movies could learn from (Haven't seen Wonder Woman yet).

I rate it equal to the first, even if that is "cheating".

I rewatched the first one again after and I still love it and the sequel. The tone through both is right, and it does enough different to not feel like a rehash while staying true to characters. Both juggle tons of characters so I get some getting less time than others, but over all I couldn't be happier with both.

5/5 stars, just flat out fun adventure comedy movies

Loved it, very visually well done, greatly developed characters, and a fun ride overall. The plot was fairly predictable, but the way it was all done made up for it.

Also as Truck said, shirtless Chris Pratt
