Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A Biased Review Reloaded - Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in Review One Year Later

Barring reading the complete review, your scoring system is interesting. I wouldn't recommend just a "decent" (6) game to anyone.

The real story are the player's actions and it's not even defeating Ganon that feels like the ultimate goal, rather it's the journey itself. Players have become so used to beating a game as the reward that they've forgotten how fun games can be regardless of if they are finished or not. This is why Breath of the Wild got bombarded with perfect scores, because its premise is "you, the player, are great" instead of the all too common "look how awesome we developers are."

I agree with most of your points here, but this part in particular stood out. The journey is definitely where the game shines. It's not a game where I find myself plotting how soon I'll get to the end, every gaming session is a complete surprise and surpasses my wildest expectations.

I also must say that I love how the narrative was executed in this game. You pretty much can have as much story as you like, or as little. I honestly don't play enough games that feature story-telling like this, and I'd love to see it more often, particularly in this genre. Giving me control of how I advance through the world, only  to force me to listen to mandatory main quest events, definitely hinders that that feeling of complete control.

Anyways, excellent review, Rol. Hope to see this continue.

No mention of weapon durability? That deserves a trigger warning. Also, the reward for all 900 korok seeds is literally shit.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Good thing you're not on Metacritic. Otherwise you would drag the beautiful number down even more with your terrible score.

Nice review. I loved my 120 hour play through. Games this big do not have the replay value. I replayed a 100% play-through in A Link Between Worlds the day after I beat it. I can't see myself coming back to this game for a few years. Though the DLC story will make me revisit the game.

The frame rate drops happened a lot when I fought Moblins... It was always Moblins for me for some reason. Other than that, the frame rate was fine for me.

My biggest complaint, I've said it before, I will say it again. The music in this game is unmemorable garbage, aside from a few songs.

On a side note. Has anyone ever noticed the main theme song (played in the reveal trailer and in the end credits)and how it weirdly transitions halfway through? It sounds choppy.

You mean action adventure. Not action RPG.

Nope, I mean what I said. The old distinction from around 1990 between action-adventure and RPG was first and foremost about no experience points in the former, but growth in stats is growth in stats regardless of EXP being present or not. The original The Legend of Zelda is older than the genre definitions.

But it's really not something worth fighting over, because definitions for genres have been blurred more and more over time, so nowadays nobody is able to provide clear rules for where one genre ends and another one begins. Your point of view is going to be as defensible as mine, so we could have a long battle of semantics that would only lead to the same conclusion that I've already written in this sentence.

Yes, it's definitely not worth fighting over it, but I would just go by the today's definition which labels it as an action-adventure. I agree with you explanation, but I never heard that the original one was ever known as a RPG.
