"Despite being a return to Zelda's roots of an open world action RPG"

You mean action adventure. Not action RPG.

Nope, I mean what I said. The old distinction from around 1990 between action-adventure and RPG was first and foremost about no experience points in the former, but growth in stats is growth in stats regardless of EXP being present or not. The original The Legend of Zelda is older than the genre definitions.

But it's really not something worth fighting over, because definitions for genres have been blurred more and more over time, so nowadays nobody is able to provide clear rules for where one genre ends and another one begins. Your point of view is going to be as defensible as mine, so we could have a long battle of semantics that would only lead to the same conclusion that I've already written in this sentence.

Yes, it's definitely not worth fighting over it, but I would just go by the today's definition which labels it as an action-adventure. I agree with you explanation, but I never heard that the original one was ever known as a RPG.
