I beg to differ, but what can I say...

I have an open mind.

I have an open mind. I have sampled anime and decided I don't like it.

Well, then you don't have an open mind. Saying that is like saying: I have sampled a Hollywood movie and I didn't like it.

Anime is very different. Take for example: Mushishi, Serial Experiments Lain, Parasyte Maxim, Nichijou and Akatsuki no Yona. These series fit together well as Stranger Things, How I met your Mother, Primer, 300 and finding nemo would fit into the same category - not at all. So if you put Anime together so as if it would be all the same you don't treat anime fairly.

Have you played XCX? Characters looks like robots due to plot reasons.

I have played it. Most characters didn't notice they were robots until they died.

Thank you. I was debating putting a response together, but you voiced everything I could have possibly said. Lumping all anime into one category makes about as much sense as lumping every piece of American cinema together. As in....not at all.

I like the art style so I'm good with it. Still early to tell what is Xenoblade 2 all about. really hard to beat the first one. itching to play it again, the monado is calling me.

From a commercial perspective, it doesn't matter anyway what Monolith Soft does with the artstyle. I expect it to be business as usual, namely that they kill any chance for high sales potential with an overload of RPG systems and stats.

Well I like systems and stats and shit. But I'm a strange customer. I agree that the mainstream does give shit about real RPG experience and understands RPG more of an action game with strong character that is getting stronger over time. A friend of mine has a saying about these sort of RPG: You attack only with your level. Even if other stats are involved, if they are bound strongly to levelups that is true in the end.

For anyone interested in the art of this game, the character designer is Masatsugu Saito. Why does that matter? Well like any time a name is mentioned in a trailer, he has prior works we can look at to get a taste of what to expect. Namely "Expelled from Paradise," the cel-shaded CGI anime movie he designed the characters for.

Needless to say, it looks eerily similar to what we've seen in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. If you're interested in playing this game, and want a preview of how the game will look like - especially in cutscenes, it would be well worth checking out. (Don't watch if fanservice makes you uncomfortable, though. This isn't exactly an art piece.)

I've tried many anime shows, many anime movies, and many games like an anime style. In the majority of cases I find the style and associated conventions annoying.

Having an "open mind" doesn't mean you're not allowed to dislike things.

When the boy was standing next to a red sword with a glowing hilt it hit me. Anime art style Xenobade. Up until that point I thought it was a new IP. Some people will be put off by this art style, but I personally LOVE this look. I must have the anime Monado boy amiibo right now.

His face though.

The game will be fantastic, I am not at all worried.

Game is not coming out in 2017.

I mean, anime is incredibly broad, so it kind of is not having an open mind. Saying you don't like anime is like saying you don't like live-action. The only "associated conventions" and "style" are being animated and being produced in Japan.

I don't like anime in general; there are exceptions (Princess Mononoke comes to mind) but the tropes common to around 90% of anime irritate the crap out of me. That's not being closed minded, that's simply not being a fan of overly melodramatic high school aged main characters, cutesy mascot co-stars, technicoloured hair, and other such widespread cliches.
