Forums - Gaming - So Nintendo officially quit console gaming. Switch is a handheld system

Surprise, Handhelds are console.

Damn, people are having a breakdown abut this.Is it really that hard to understand? It is both. Its a home console and a handheld console in one.Nintendo is not leaving any of them.

Does it really matter? In this day and age where EVERYTHING is multipurpose,EVERYTHING does EVERYTHING, does it really freaking matter??

They've left the console market to Sony/MS.

And I would say the same thing if Sony had made "Sony Switch" and no Playstation 4. So would a lot of people. Marketing gobbledeegoop is just that ... they can call it whatever they want, it is effectively getting out of the existing home console market.

Which is fine. Like I said above if you were a lot better at tennis (portables), had more fun playing tennis, got more satisfaction from playing tennis, then why the fuck are you even playing football (consoles)? It's basically like the kid who keeps playing a sport he's not good at because his dad used to love playing it and he wants to keep up the family tradition even though he doesn't really like the sport.

That's basically modern Nintendo's relationship with portables and consoles. They're way better at one, feel more comfortable with one, they don't even seem to like anything about consoles. Online play? Not really Nintendo's passion. Modern console hardware? Not really Nintendo's passion, consoles run too hot, even though why that is such a fucking concern is nominal since a console will always be plugged into wall power. Supporting a modern TV resolution (you know because HOME consoles are played on a TV)? Nope, not really something Nintendo cares for. Consoles need to be small. Why? Who the hell knows, for the person who lives in a house the size of a closet apparently. The NS doesn't even have the hollowed "brand new Nintendo console controller" thing that Nintendo used to justify their last two consoles, it's basically the same control layout as a Wii U (analog positioning tweaked but that's about it).

Is a nvidia shield done right.

Basically, yes.

a nvidia shield, by a company like Nintendo, with Mario, Zelda & Pokemon, much better library, than can really hit the Japanse and worldwide market better than nvidia.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

But the point is, you are wrong.First because Switch is after all a gaming console.By default it will be competing with Sony and Microsoft.I mean, it might not be competing head to head, but it will be regardless.

But I think the biggest mistake is that you are making alot of assumptions here and taking conclusions in which have big chance to be wrong. You are assuming they will have bad online play, when they showed nothing of the sort, and actually has alot going for it, being that the partneship with Dena(and it showing as one of the companies on board with the Switch), the New Nintendo reward program being at the moment heavily based around online interactivity, and many more.

You are assuming that it dosent have modern console hardware, yet it will be receiving(and being able to run) Skyrim Enhanced Edition, and (I suppose) a NBA game, plus all the other third party games already announced. Not only that, but that list of confirmed companies working on at least something for the Switch is, at least for Nintendo, impressive.Dont get me wrong:that may not turn to be true, or the games they bring in are shovelware, but at this point is a good sign. So, assuming that the Switch is at least capable of running current gen games from third party even if it isnt the most powerful out there, it will be a modern console wether you like it or not.

And when you say about the modern TV resolution, I assume you refer to the rumor about 720p max resolution rumor? Its a rumor man, and Im fairly certain that many credible people out there is saying that that rumor is false. But look no further for proof than the trailer itself. The Switch is running Zelda and supposedly Skyrim, which looks to be demanding games. So at the very least it will be more powerful than the Wii U.And the rant about the size, I wont even comment.

All in all, I think you are pissed about things you are imaginating, not about real facts or even things that have a chance to happen. My tip is:Take it easy, be more positive about the good news that came out of it, and wait for actual information pertaining those subjects to be actually pissed or happy about them.

Maybe it's part of Nintendo wanting to create more unique experiences without having to deal with big budgets that could be more risky if unable to deliver sales-wise. It allows them to be creative and take things differently and not always by the standards of modern gaming (realistic, high end, high budget, trying to become the next blockbuster). That's why they're able to make Splatoon, Wii Sports, Nintendogs, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, etc. so successful. The most any Nintendo game really spent on production (based on what I searched) were the original Pokemon games with about $50 million spent to create the start of the second best selling franchise of all-time. Sure their past games on NES and SNES showed how they utilized power in the past, but their main focus was gameplay and creating unique experiences. To them, graphics and power are part of the process, not the focus, which is gameplay and fun. They've applied that to pretty much most, if not all, of their games since their rise in the gaming industry.

Though again, this doesn't take away from the fact that the Switch can be both a home console and a handheld. To play Zelda BoTW (which has pushed the Wii U to its limits already) on the couch with a regular controller or take it on the go. How about Splatoon's multiplayer opportunities on Switch? There's something to be had if executed effectively.

Good! It means that it will have Pokemon, Yokai watch, Monster Hunter that Japan will indulge in!

And if it is a handheld, then we shouldn't be comparing it to the PS4 and XONE Directly.

I don't think so. I mean, the PS4 and Xone thing

We should compare it directly. If they get 3 party support, so it is a competitor.

You may say they weren't designed around that, but still it launched with the functionality around. So intention defines what it is?

NS can function as a console as much as a PSTV can as well. so it isn't exacly new.

The thread is more about the dock having little use besides being a chargepod with tv connection, making it much more of a handheld hooked to a tv than a console that you may carry and play with or a hybrid.

It isn't the same, but evolving a concept or idea isn't the same as making it a home console.

And besides nintendo saying it's a home console on their reveal they took almost all the time on the presentation showing it as a handheld and not as a home console, so their narrative doesn't fit.

THIS!!!!!

Well, people like to try to push it to their perception to fit a narrative

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Here's the difference compared to something like PSP...

Switch was designed from the ground up to work as a home console. Not only does it connect to a television, it supports multiple controllers for local multiplayer, it will have split screen games, etc.

The PSP was designed to a be a true home console. TV support didn't come until the second model, PSP games only take like 50% of the screen, and it only does single player. Simply connecting to a TV doesn't make PSP and Switch equal.
