Personally I think most of this issue could be fixed by taking the Politics section off the front page, we're a video game forum first and foremost. I don't mind the occasional political/religious thread but lately too many threads have gone off into flame wars and some of that has started to bleed into other sections of the forum.

Why not just enforce rules evenly across all threads regardless of topic?

That would likely solve a rather easy problem.  If calling people names for their likes, dislikes or beliefs in a console warrants moderation surely doing the same for someone's political or religious likes, dislikes or beliefs makes sense.

Jesus Christ people! Stop ruining it for people who enjoy them. Just block political threads from your hot topics feed.

This is like when ocean tried to block NX threads because they annoyed 5 people. It failed! We want to post what we want to post.

Don't go in them!

It didn't fail. We assumed (wrongfully so) that the NX would be announced at E3. So it was re-opened in preperation of that. Under the condition it wouldnt be so bad as last Nov. and Dec. 80% or more of the Hot Topics were flooded with NX threads. Most of it being superficial point hunting threads such as "wut color will da nx b guyz?" or "will the nx logo b on da top like the ps2 or the side liek th' xbox one?" -thankfully nothing to that extent has happened since.

How about more dedicated mods for this kind of topics?

Personally, I don't think so. The people who do what I wrote about (hit n' run threads, articles that are obviously fake, or ones that they know will stir up conflict) don't post a lot on the forums. They tend to only crop up when they make a bad thread or look and post in other bad threads. If my comment is insensitive to the trolls, I cant get myself to care much

EDIT: You know what? You're right. I'm sorry. That wasn't very mature behavior on my part and I apologize for my post. I can't unsay what I said, unfortunately, and won't pretend I never said it (so it'll stay here for the records). But yeah, that was a bad example by me. But ya know, I think I have a slight point. But yeah. I'm sorry for that behavior earlier.

What was the reasoning behind saying it to begin with?  I mean this plus some others recently are pretty shocking.

Funnily enough that's something I was talking to another user about a little bit ago. Here's my issue: I usually don't mind dealing with political threads since they don't come up too often. But since its election season and gamings dry season theres been a high volume of people making them. And you can only be accussed of being a "democrit", "libtard", and "republicunt" so many times before it annoys the crap out of you. Especially when people say there's a mod conspiracy to "silence" their opinion... and those are all things me and others are constantly barraged with. I know me and the others have toyed with the idea in the past -having a mod dedicated to political/religious threads. But maybe now we should really consider it

It doesn't really work due to the nature of the discussions. Politics and religion affect people personally and people may carry strong beliefs that they live by and are willing to express which I don't think is the same as moderating for a gaming discussion.  Issues like name calling can be fixed but more complex issues like controversial political/religious topics is sort of up in the air at this point.

Or perhaps temporary mods. You assign people as mods to "moderate" the influx of new threads until the influx dies down.

Seasonal mods, aye? I may talk to the others about that

You can be passionate about something without bringing in personal insults.

Maybe have one giant thread where people can discuss religion?

To be honest I wouldn't mind it if religious/political threads just went away.

This is a forum about video game sales, having OT threads about other entertainment issues like movies, music, and sports is alright, but religion/politics seems like a huge ass stretch. Plus it would probably make life a lot easier for mods.
