The WiiU was announced way before it released and many people still didnt know wtf it was. The message needs to be very clear. If its a simple handheld, then thats fine, but what about the 10-20 launch games that needs to be marketed? Its not just all on Nintendo. Other companies needs opportunities to sell their games and its been pretty obvious that Nintendos own games are the ones that take the front seat in Nintendos own Direct or conference or whatever they do. Each company dont have their own conference every 2-3 months. They need time to sell their games as well. If Nintendo really waits until 3-4 months before release to announce, then they really dont have any respect for the other publishers and developers that are making games for their console.

If a publisher really needs all the extra time to market in today's world then they're being inefficient, Fallout 4 for example was only revealed at E3, literally 5 months before its release, this is the era we're in now and if a company can't keep up it's on them. When developers and publishers decided to be on NX they would have been made aware of this when signing NDAs as well.

Its not about being inefficient. Some developers like to get feedback from the community on what they like and what they can change or add. You cant really do much in 3 months. Nintendo is not in Sony or MS position where third parties can easily delay their games. The launch is a big deal.

If that is a part of their NDA, then dont expect much from third parties at launch other than last year ports, mini game compilations and Just Dance.

If they keep it safe and do a cheap console, they can make good numbers and keep going. Then I see no major growth to their product. Maybe Mario Jump help get people to get some sales. But it won't reach nice numbers.

If they make a 400 bucks console and the 3rd party option backfires, they will end up with another Wii U and now without a 3DS to back it up since it's a single platform. Selling just 15M consoles in a single gen (since it's a combined platform) would pretty much do a massive damage to Nintendo. Nintendo wouldn't just discontinue the 3DS. Intill they know the NX is in a okay shape. Just like the GBA was planned. If the DS didn't work.

Torok is right, you might not think there is a lot of room for growth by going low-cost/casual route but there is far less room for growth by releasing a PS/XB type of console.

By March 2017 (when NX is scheduled to release) PS4+XBO sales will be around 90 million.

Will the people who already own one of these devices make the jump to NX to play the same 3rd party games they already have access to? No, if they buy an NX than it will be for the 1st/2nd party exclusives and if these people are looking to upgrade than they will choose the Pro/Scorpio since they can still play all their games and keep their account system.

Are future customers looking for a console to play the big mainstream 3rd party games going to choose NX over PS4/Pro/XBO/Scorpio? Some maybe, but most wont. They will choose the established devices with a few years worth of games to play & have large online communities and if they are into power than they will choose Pro/Scorpio since its very, very unlikey NX will be more powerful than those even if they try to go head to head with PS/XB.

Making a PS/XB device in the middle of a console cycle would be a very unwise idea for Nintendo. The only way that Nintendo could potentially steal away a large amount of these people would be release a vastly more powerful console than PS/XB at the transition point between generations. Had they released a $400, 1TB+, 8GB RAM console back in 2012 instead of Wii U than maybe they could have gotten PS3/360 owners to upgrade but they missex their chance.

Whose expecting anything else from third parties? Other than Japanese developers if you were expecting anything else other than ports at the start I think you need to be more realistic and as for third parties not delaying their games Rayman just started laughing hard at that one.

So we shouldnt expect anything decent from third parties? At least the WiiU got ZombiU...

Rayman wasnt a launch game btw. It was supposed to release in february 2013, but got delayed because Ubisoft changed their minds and made the game multi platform.

Rayman shows they'll delay a title, you can expect what ever you want but going from how third parties have been in recent years expecting something other than a port from them at launch is being optimistic, NX third party games looks mainly to be a long haul affair with games like DQ and Sonic confirmed for it and those are out later in 2017.

Well if Nintendo are fine with it, then so be it. 95% of third party games would probably be overshadowed by Nintendos own games like they always do anyway...

Also note that the release of Super Mario Run delayed their Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing mobile titles.

Would be funny if the SMR app had Mario NX ads updated into it after the NX reveal. It's all marketing ;)

SMR will be bigger title than Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing and offcourse they want to have strongest title for holiday season.

Yeah, that's why they choose it, but for marketing reasons

They choised because is huge paid game that will bring them solid amount of money in last quarter of 2016 FY, not because NX is coming in March, in that case they would released it in January or February SMR much closer to NX relase date not in December.

Listen I know there are lots of people that think PS4 and XbOne are the best things ever but not every gamer wants one! There are also people believing that these consoles will sell another 25 million systems between now and by the time NX launches. (Which is very wishful thinking at best.)

There's nothing portable about any of the current systems, so generally people who will be interested in the NX won't necessarily be concerned about choosing it over the other systems. Those consoles have been out for 3yrs now, so most people that want one already have one...

Because people as a whole like to standardise things, or compare them to a single standard. If say a TV wasnt rectangular people would say it ludicrous and a failure.

I dont think the NX has to be another PSXbox BUT above all else it needs to attract 3rd party support and in order to do that the NX has to be easy to develop for or port to.
