I'm surprised the discussion has gone on this long with only maybe one person realizing Pokemon Go isn't even a Nintendo game. The only claim Nintendo has on this is they own a third of The Pokemon Company which by itself does not make this a Pokemon game. Notice the lack of Nintendo logos? However this does benefit Nintendo immensely because it has boosted the popularity of Pokemon which can have great effect on the next game release.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Sorry, Halo 2 was not and is not a cultural phenomenon.  What it was, at the time, was the most highly anticipated game release.  That doesn't make a cultural phenomenon.  The first thing a cultural phenomenon must do is clearly transcend its own demographic and permeate into pop culture's everyday life.

nevermind lol....quoted the wrong person

That's the power of branding at its finest there though.  Nintendo shows up in Pokemon Go on the servers are down screen and in the about screen as a copyright holder, nothing more.  However, because Pokemon has always been on Nintendo platforms, people instantly associate Pokemon with Nintendo.  Synonymous at this point really

Then you don't know what a cultural phenomenon is. Halo 2 was a big deal. But it was not a cultural phenomenon. You have to think outside the realm of gaming. The Wii was a cultural phenomenon. Kinect was not. Halo was not.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Also, question for all, what kind of advertising and marketing did Pokemon Go receive as compared to Halo, Kinect, GTA, etc...  I personally did not see any at all for Pokemon Go.  For Halo, Kinect. GTA, etc...player were well aware they were coming.  The majority of Pokemon Go players didn't.  That's what makes this so impressive.  There was no hype leading up to it.  Hell, there was more marketing and hype for Miitomo.

I only saw some posts in 9gag a couple of months ago, and I can't remember the location but I've seen the inititial trailer somewhere, but that's it.

Don't play mobile games, but Pokemon go so far has done great for Nintendo. They surpassed Sony in market cap with this game.

Everyone is acting like AR is a new application. MS and Sony aren't stupid enough to put so many people (A heck of a lotta kids) at the risk of death and the bad publicity it will entail.

So AR = death and bad publicity?  That is a bit of a stretch.  Let alone the fact that the Hololens from Microsoft is an AR device.

Please tell me you're joking. There's no way this is real.

People will die. people will sued, lawsuits galore.

Smartphones kill people all the time, Apple/Google/Samsung do not get sued for it.

It's your own damn fault if you're looking at your phone/texting/playing a game when you should be driving.
