Got red ring one out of the five 360's I had. (Post elite consoles had no problem).

No yllod, but my slim's disc drive stopped working after 6 months.

No problems from both my 360 (Elite) and PS3 ( 80g fat and Slim).

my 360 is fine, and i never had a PS3. oddly enough i had my Wii go out a few times

Had 2 360s die on me. Modded it after the 2nd time by increasing the voltage to the fans to keep it much cooler. Lasted for like 3 years. Eventually got an S model and it was still working when i sold it to get my xbox one... Granted i never played my 360 after like 2010 and went like 95% PC gaming. Ive built 3 PCs since then and all of them still work.

Long Live SHIO!

Both were fine. Ironically my Wii was a bit defective. It wouldn't read certain discs for some reason

I didn't own either console, but the 360 a friend of mine bought back in 2006 lasted the entire generation, though we didn't exactly use it extensively.

My brothers 2007 Zephyr Xbox 360 died earlier this year. He had it since 2007, and only played for a few hours, a couple times each week. It wasn't until he bought GTAV and played non stop for hours everyday, that it ended up red ringing. Ironically, he bought the Nyko intercooler at the same time to try and keep it cool so it wouldn't overheat. I'm an electrician by trade, so I couldn't just let it go, lol.

I read a lot about what the issue could be and started by tearing apart the power supply. Tested it all out and it was fine. Opened up the console (the rear tabs were a pain) and noticed right away that 4 or 5 of the 9, 16V capacitors for the 12V main power feed were definitely blown and burnt out. They were green Sanyo caps, which was odd because it seems that few 360's were made using those brand of caps. The rest of the Rubycon caps inside all looked to be in ok shape. I also found that one of the rear fans was not working at all.

I ordered a pack of 10, like for like, higher end Rubycon replacement caps and swapped them out (that new solder is a real pain to work with btw) and while I was at it, replaced the thermal paste with some mx-4. I also did the fan shroud mod, and extended/sealed it to force the air to go to the front of the console, and then through the heatsinks completely. Lastly, I cut both fans out of their housing and cut out the rear metal grating behind the fans, and just used the Nyko intercooler on the back. (its the proper one with the metal connector, not plastic)

When I first booted it back up, it ran for approximately 2 minutes on the home screen, then red ringed again, but after a minute of waiting, I booted it up again and its been running fine ever since. I think I may not have cleaned the board off well enough and some debris or excess rubbing alcohol may have caused a short potentially. I opened it back up and cleaned the board off better just to make sure. 360 runs like a dream now.

I also have taken some temperature readings with a temp gun, and while I don't know what it was running beforehand, after all the fixes, while playing GTAV after a couple hours, with an ambient of 22C, the max reading I got pointing into the rear of the console at the heatsinks, was 43C. Based on what I've read, stock temps are typically from 60C to 75C, so I have to assume even though I don't have a core temp reading, that the console is now running considerably cooler regardless.

I guess we'll see how long the fix lasts, but I have a feeling that the row of caps that run right alongside the CPU heatsink are going to become a problem sooner or later. Why MS didn't extend the shroud and keep the heat away from the rest of the internals, and force it out the back, I have no idea. Either they didn't know what they were doing, or rushed the product to get it out before PS3, or wanted them to fail eventually and lead to more sales but didn't plan on the issue showing up so quickly.

I have a PS3 slim, 2009 model I think, and I played it for hours on end 3 to 4 times a week since I got it. It has been the most quiet, cool, console I've ever seen. I must have gotten lucky because I know my friends slims are not as quiet or cool as mine. It's been rock solid since the day I bought it, but doesn't get used anymore now that I have myself a 2015, 1215 edition PS4, that runs quite warm, and has gotten very loud. I am planning on opening it up and cleaning it out and potentially moding it, after the warrantly runs out, which is soon.

My 60gb Launch(ish) ps3 died after about 6 years.

I only kept my launch 360 for about a year... so no I never got a rrod. I don't think later models were as susceptable, and I didn't use the thing enough to get one anyway probably...

My PS3 60GB model with ps2 compatibilityy is still going strong I think but haven't used it for 4 months. I went thorugh about 5 or 6 xbox 360's but it wasn't always RROD at least once I had a optical drive fail and another time I had one 360 come back from repair that was DOA. No problems with the wii of course but then it never got much use to be honest in comparison with the ps3 and 360.

Hmm the plot thickens for my old 360. I borrowed a different power supply, rated the same 203w, now my 360 flashes 3 red lights while the power supply goes to green and back to orange. (my old power supply simply went to red when trying to turn on the 360 with no reaction from the 360)

The Microsoft site is not very helpful, hardware problem with either 360 or power supply, thanks... If power supply goes green, 360 is kaput, goes red, power supply bad, stays orange try a different power socket. I tried a few, stays orange, 360 why you no like Canadian electricity :/

Any clue? Guess I'll bring it to my local shop to get advice what to do with it.
