If either of these were true, though, I'd say we're doing something wrong.

That does not look that bad. Namely when asians are out doing majority in the tech field. Don't think you know what you are talking about with minorities. |
I do. Plenty of workplaces will do whatever it takes to get minorities. Just look at google - white people are underrepresented and they still say that they want to reduce that to 50%.

If you are going to say things back that up with data, and do not just use USA total popluation demographics, because by that logic black people on the percentage are underrepresented. Show graduation rates (for STEM obviously) and show that statement to 50% with evidence.
Because what I seen in terms of graduate rates, is besides management, where whites are over represented. The only group really over represented is Asians, which is most likely has to do with the bringing over talent.

Why for STEM obviously? Google only employs tech people?

Well a predominately tech company, would hire ... predominately STEM, individuals. Their main focus and product relates to STEM field. It is the argument I would use to say why Google has more males than females whenever someone cries sexism at tech companies.

Depends on the kind of qualifications you're looking for. If you meant in a broader, more general sense, then I guess I'd agree with you though :)

I'd say they're predominantly an ads company. I can't find any data by department though.
Anyone can be discriminated against, but I think if most white people had to spend 3 months being black or Hispanic, it probably would be a fairly large shock to them (and I say that as someone who's not black or Hispanic).
We don't live in a post-racial, happy-mappy society, people still make a million assumptions about a person based on their skin color because it's so ingrained into us, it's probably a tribal mechanism.

Couldn't the same be said the other way around? I grow tired of this sort of way of thinking. There's a lot of hyperbole being generated to guilt trip people into pandering to one race over others. That in and of itself is discrimination.
