Forums - Gaming - Is 720p still acceptable to you?

It does matter. That's one of the reason many people switch from the XBOX to PlayStation or Consoles to PC for better overall (and sometimes even handhelds to Smartphone).
However, is it essential ? Ofc not, infact. Some of the most beautiful game on PS4/XBOX1 ain't even 900/1080p. Take Quantum Break, The Order 1886 , Ryse Son of Rome and StarWar 2015 for example. Ofc, there are exception, such as inFAMOUS Second Son, this game is imho, a masterpiece in graphical department.

Personally, i prefer performance over resolution. But i do hope i can get both in console gaming.
PS4k/4.5 is my hope.
Tho, if it's a separated console then no thanks...

Oh and btw, Mario Kart 8 is 720/60fps, not 1080p/60fps. Smash is 1080/60fps tho i believe.

If you own a big screen TV and cant see the difference between 720p and 1080p, i would say that you are lying.

I think most of us here have figured out by now that this thread was created to justify the denial of 1080p and the justifcation of settling for 720p when clearly there are better options.

Doubt anyone denies that 1080p is objectively better. There are better options than 1080p too, but they cost a lot more. Many people are willing to sacrifice resolution at this point for improvements in other areas.

I'm still playing my PS3 so...

What does the "denial of 1080p" even mean?

As for "better options", not everyone considers such options worthwhile. Plenty of games cannot be played at 1080p on any current console, yet many opt to play the lower resolution console versions anyway, be it because consoles are more convenient, or that is where their friends are, or a high end gaming PC is beyond their financial means.

People have different priorities.

Unless you have a 60in HDTV 1080p or i makes the lettering too small. I like playing some games on 720p.

Yeah, I still have a lot of 7th gen games in my backlog as well. The only games that look bad from resolution are the ones that go well below 720p, Shadow of Mordor being one of the worst looking 7th gen games for numerous reasons.

I think something people forget is even 1080p games can look pretty bad without post processing effects.

It has it's drawbacks though, the gamepad already starts to lose connection at the other end of my living room, nor will it work through the patio door. I have to move the WiiU outside if I want to sit on the deck with the gamepad, while it's less than 8 ft from where it normally sits.

Yet it gives possibilities for wireless vr headsets, perhaps the WiiU tech is fast enough for that. However game streaming VR games will be impossible. Vita and PS TV should be a bit better as they support direct WiFi, perhaps that will be a future update for remote play too. Too bad the ps4 doesn't have 5ghz wifi.

Anyway the lag is a much more restricting factor than 720p.

Low range comes from the 5GHz band that doesn't penetrate well through walls. I have the same issue with my dual-band routers, where I'm not interested in speed but I am in range, so I have the 5GHz band always turned off (for energy reasons). It's a compromise that must be made during design.

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

No, i can tell the difference, 1080p should be standard.

its not a matter of game quality, its a metter of product quality. 720p looks fine, but even CELL PHONES are starting to have higher resolution

And? Who cares? Alot NES games are still better than games from today, resolution doesen't matter ;)

I will admit that I have enjoyed quite a few NES games, even in this generation, you have to remember-- those games were made in the 80's, and at the time they were considered cutting edge graphics
